Full Job Description

The Crowne Plaza Union City is looking for a Chief Engineer to join their elaborate team! This is a hands-on type of position so if you like to fix things, this is the position for you. This unique property has 268 rooms, over 11,000 square feet of banquet space, and 4 meeting rooms. The hotel is about 40 minutes away from beautiful San Francisco Bay and 30 minutes from the San Francisco Airport.

Manage the implementation of all property and equipment preventive maintenance and repairs, monitor life safety systems and utilities. Administer the department in compliance with corporate/franchise standards and local, state, and national codes and regulations to protect assets, guests, and associates.

Responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of the hotel’s mechanical/electrical systems and equipment, as well as the general maintenance and upkeep of the hotel grounds, swimming pool, etc.

Responsibilities:

· Assist in developing and implementing plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds, and other assets in a safe and acceptable state of repair.

· Ensure the hotel is in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws.

· Manage and train all Engineering staff in customer service and standard operating procedures.

· Respond to employee emergency situations using information contained in M.S.D. sheets. Keep MSDS sheets current and easily available (with Housekeeping Manager).

· Create and post all Engineering staff schedules.

· Create and adhere to the annual budget for the department.

· Assist in developing financial forecasts and actively participate in monthly profit/loss review meetings.

· Create and implement a preventative maintenance program for all hotel equipment.

· Ensure all emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested, and certified by hotel standards.

· Actively participate in energy conservation programs.

· Review all guest comments to ensure problems are identified and corrected promptly.

· Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

· Assist with the administration of all vendor contracts controlled by the engineering department.

· Ensure that room maintenance requests are handled in a prompt and courteous manner.

· Follow up on all alarms immediately to determine the exact location and cause. Determine emergency status and report findings to the front desk. Take immediate action as necessary.

· Assist as necessary with special projects and renovations.

· Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum 4-7 years of experience in a hotel or a related field.
Management experience required.
Current Certification as required by Federal, State, or Local governing agents pertaining to trade requirements (i.e., HVAC, pool operation, electrical), property-specific.
Current certification and licensing to operate and repair the hotel's boilers and chillers as required by state, city, and local legislation.
Must have a valid driver's license for the applicable state.
Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
Must work well in stressful, high-pressure situations.
Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc. from disparate sources and consider, adjust or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need.
Must be effective at listening to, understanding, clarifying and resolving the concerns and issues raised by coworkers and guests.
Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.
