Job Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented full-time Surgical Coordinator/Medical Assistant to support our growing orthopedic practice. This is a unique role to our organization, this position gets to work 1:1 with the occupational health chiropractor supporting his practice as a Medical Assistant and Surgical Coordinator.

We are seeking individuals who enjoy working with a variety of Orthopedic Sub-Specialties to include General Ortho, Foot & Ankle, Hand, Total Joints, and Sports Medicine. We strive to provide optimal access to all levels of orthopedic care and provide consistently high service giving patients the best experience possible. In addition to our team environment and quality patient care, we offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package.

The Surgical Coordinator/Medical Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures within a medical facility. This position involves coordinating patient schedules, managing health information, rooming patients, taking vitals, stocking rooms, and providing clerical support to the surgical team. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and a keen attention to detail, ensuring that all aspects of surgical coordination are handled efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures in alignment with surgeon's scheduling preferences, ensuring optimal use of operating room time.
Understand and adhere to the scheduling requirements of Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) partners.
Manage patient records and health information, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, facilities, and medical staff regarding surgical processes and preparations.
Handle clerical tasks such as typing, filing, and maintaining accurate records of surgeries performed.
Utilize medical scheduling software to manage appointments and follow-ups for patients.
Assist in office management tasks (such as prior authorizations) to ensure the administrative functions run smoothly within the surgical department.
Support the surgical team by preparing necessary documentation and materials prior to procedures.
Room patients
Casting/Splinting/Brace Fitting
Ability to be standing for long periods of time
Perform Surgical Dressing Changes
Exhibit Clinical Decision Making Skills
Prepare Injections
Suture/staple removal
Documenting patient information
Stocking rooms with medical supplies
Additional duties as needed

Skills

Proficient in clerical duties including typing, filing, and document management.
Knowledgeable in health information management practices relevant to surgical settings.
Experience in a medical office environment is preferred.
Familiarity with medical scheduling systems to efficiently manage patient appointments.
Strong communication skills for effective interaction with patients and healthcare professionals.
Ability to operate phone systems and manage incoming calls professionally.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Administrative skills that contribute to effective office management within a healthcare setting.
Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality.
Works well as a team member by maintaining professional and technical knowledge and cross-training.
Assist other departments when asked, and as workflow allows.
Assist with general office-wide tasks, and additional duties as assigned.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to multi-task in a busy and fast-paced environment
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
Proficient computer skills involving data entry3+ years of experience in the orthopedic healthcare industry preferred, but not required
Certified Medical Assistant or LPN License (Preferred)
BLS Certification (Required or obtained after hire)

Comply with the working and physical requirements that require a full range of body motion including, but not limited to, stretching, bending, lifting, sitting, standing, walking, pushing and pulling. This position requires lifting as much as 25 pounds with occasional lifting and/or carrying objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
