About the Role: Service Technician
QComp Technologies is seeking a Service Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will troubleshoot, maintain, and repair robotic and automated systems at customer sites. You will play a critical role in minimizing downtime, restoring system performance, and delivering responsive, high-quality service that keeps customer operations running.
Travel: Frequent travel required, including overnight and extended customer support as needed
Role Overview
The Service Technician delivers field service support across a range of automation systems, including diagnostics, preventative maintenance, repairs, and customer training. Success in this role requires strong technical skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently in dynamic customer environments.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Service & Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control system issues on robotic and automated equipment
- Diagnose and repair motors, drives, sensors, wiring, and machine components
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals
- Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement effective solutions
- Respond to urgent service calls to restore customer operations quickly
Maintenance & System Reliability
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, calibrations, and repairs on robotic cells and automation systems
- Ensure all work meets safety, quality, and performance standards
- Identify recurring issues and recommend system improvements
- Maintain tools, test equipment, and service materials in safe working condition
Customer Support & Communication
- Serve as a professional, customer-facing representative during on-site visits
- Communicate findings, recommendations, and timelines clearly
- Train operators and maintenance teams on equipment operation and basic troubleshooting
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve service issues
Coordination & Documentation
- Document service work, root causes, and recommendations accurately and on time
- Coordinate service visits, scheduling, and follow-up actions
- Track service activity, expenses, and parts usage
- Escalate technical or customer concerns when needed
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, robotics, maintenance, or field service
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Working knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment, robotics, sensors, and pneumatics
- Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities in the field
- High attention to detail and accurate documentation skills
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively
- Technical degree, trade certification, or equivalent hands-on experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a robotic integrator, machine builder, or industrial service provider
- Familiarity with robot programming or PLC troubleshooting
- Prior customer-facing field service experience
Technical Experience (Preferred)
- ABB and FANUC robotic systems
- Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMI interfaces
- Vision systems and motion/servo control
- Industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet)
- End-of-arm tooling and automation systems
