Warehouse Manager — Norumbega Moving & Storage

About Us
Norumbega Moving & Storage is a white-glove interstate moving and storage company based in Southwest Harbor, serving Mount Desert Island, coastal Maine, and destinations nationwide. We operate our own FMCSA interstate authority and a ~20,000 sq ft managed storage facility where clients trust us with high-value belongings.
The Role
We're looking for a Warehouse Manager to own the day-to-day operation of our storage facility. This is a working manager position and will be roughly 70% warehouse operations and 30% field work supporting our moving crews with packing, loading, and deliveries.
Important: You won't be managing a team. The warehouse is yours. We need a self-starter who sees what needs to be done and does it without being told. If you want a desk job or need constant direction, this isn't it. If you want to run a facility your way, keep an inventory system airtight, and still get your hands on the work, keep reading.
What You'll Do
Warehouse (~70%)
- Manage intake, storage, retrieval, and auditing of client property in our warehouse management system
- Maintain accurate item-level inventory using QR-coded labels and photo documentation
- Keep the facility clean, organized, and up to NMS standard: every item locatable, every record current, everything put away and kept clean. Clutter kills in a busy warehouse
- Receive and condition-check incoming shipments; prepare and stage outbound retrievals
- Stage and prep trucks each day so crews are loaded, equipped, and ready to roll for the next morning's jobs
- Own facility and equipment maintenance. Handle routine upkeep yourself, schedule outside vendors for the rest, and keep a maintenance log for the building, trucks, and equipment
- Monitor the warehouse environment and flag safety or pest concerns
- Monitor and maintain our inventory of packing supplies
Client-Facing & Growth
- Serve as the point of contact for shipping and receiving clients — professional, responsive, solutions-oriented
- Identify and pursue new commercial storage and receiving clients (designers, contractors, retailers, businesses that need managed receiving)
Field (~30%)
- Work alongside our crews on moving jobs: packing, loading, transport, and delivery
- Handle client property to our white-glove standard, including antiques and high-value items
What We're Looking For
- A self-starter who takes ownership. You'll run the warehouse independently, and we'll trust you to do it
- 2+ years of warehouse, inventory, logistics, or moving industry experience
- Sales or customer-facing experience. Be comfortable talking to clients, solving their problems, and spotting opportunities to grow the business
- Organized and detail-driven. Be comfortable owning an inventory system where accuracy is non-negotiable
- Basic maintenance aptitude. Be comfortable with routine upkeep and knowing when to call in a professional
- Physically capable of sustained lifting, carrying, and team-lifting of heavy furniture and boxes
- Comfortable with technology: inventory software, mobile apps, photo documentation
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Forklift experience preferred
- Must be 18+, legally authorized to work in the U.S., and able to pass a background check
Training You'll Receive
You don't need to know our systems walking in the door, we'll teach you. All new hires go through structured onboarding, and for this role that includes full training on Movegistics (our warehouse and operations platform), NMS packing and moving standards, and company policies and procedures. You'll work alongside experienced crew members before taking on independent responsibility. We hire for judgment, work ethic, and ownership — the NMS way of doing things is trainable.
Pay & Benefits
- $25–$30/hour depending on experience and qualifications
- 3 weeks PTO, increasing to 4 weeks after 3 years
