Full Job Description

Systems Engineer I, Los Angeles (Hybrid)

Summary

We are seeking a Systems Engineer I, Los Angeles (Hybrid) to support, maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade our corporate computing environments. This role will work across infrastructure servers, end-user computing environments, applications, server hardware, virtualization platforms, cloud infrastructure, and corporate network architecture.

The Systems Engineer I will join our infrastructure team in a hybrid support/project capacity, with approximately 40% operational support and 60% planned project work. This position plays an important role in improving system efficiency, accuracy, compliance, business responsiveness, security posture, and overall infrastructure scalability as the organization continues to grow.

Compensation: $75,000 - $80,000 annual salary, plus a 8% target annual bonus.

Duties and Responsibilities

Install, configure, test, maintain, and upgrade operating systems, application software, server hardware, and systems management tools.
Build, rack, configure, deploy, and harden physical and virtual servers, including Windows and Linux environments.
Administer Windows domain services, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and related infrastructure services.
Support and manage Office 365 email environments.
Assist with installation and deployment of servers on HP server platforms, including blade servers and Virtual Connect.
Support SAN and NAS storage environments.
Manage and monitor installed systems and VMware infrastructure.
Configure and support load balancing for web and application pools.
Assist with AWS cloud infrastructure, including EC2 and VPC environments.
Proactively monitor systems to ensure high levels of availability, performance, and reliability.
Monitor and test application performance to identify bottlenecks, recommend solutions, and work with developers or internal teams to implement fixes.
Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
Provide technical user-level support to departments connected to the network, including support for thin clients and Citrix virtual desktop environments.
Support applications and services including, but not limited to, SQL, IIS, SMTP, FTP, and SNMP.
Support network appliances and monitoring tools such as SolarWinds Orion NPM and Zabbix.
Support backup applications such as Veeam and HP Data Protector.
Integrate systems into monitoring tools and ensure proper system logging.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software issues.
Understand user needs and recommend effective technical solutions.
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with end users, vendors, managers, and internal teams.
Apply information security principles and best practices in daily work.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Some cloud experience, preferably with AWS.
Linux proficiency, including command-line experience.
Working knowledge of Windows administration.
Basic to moderate understanding of networking fundamentals.
Solid understanding of OSI network layers and TCP/IP.
Knowledge of LAN/WAN concepts and fundamentals.
Knowledge of data communications and telecommunications principles.
Entry-level knowledge of VMware and virtualization technologies.
Entry-level knowledge of monitoring platforms such as SolarWinds Orion.
Entry-level knowledge of physical server infrastructure, including compute and storage.
Entry-level knowledge of AWS infrastructure.
Entry-level knowledge of backup platforms such as Veeam.
Ability to evaluate the capability and capacity of software products and communication utilities.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline; relevant certification may be considered in place of a degree.
1–2+ years of experience in a network or systems environment troubleshooting technical issues.
Experience with Veeam Backup & Recovery.
Experience supporting Citrix virtual desktop environments.
Experience with HP server platforms, SAN/NAS storage, and VMware infrastructure.
Exposure to AWS services such as EC2 and VPC.
