About AWAKE Children's Advocacy Center (CAC):
AWAKE CAC is a non-profit organization that advocates, coordinates, and provides services for children who have been sexually or physically abused.
Our Mission: To coordinate and advocate services for abused children.
AWAKE operates two centers, one in Jackson County and one in Swain County and is seeking qualified professionals to work in either location. The CAC provides onsite child forensic interviews in a child-centered environment, conducted by trained interviewers using recording equipment to eliminate the need for multiple interviews by different agencies, thus avoiding re-traumatizing the child. Victims also have an opportunity to have a comprehensive medical evaluation, court support, and trauma-focused counseling. All services are provided to the families at no cost. AWAKE coordinates monthly meetings of representatives from child protective services, law enforcement, legal, medical, and mental health organizations who work together in a collaborative approach to provide effective, efficient, and child-centered casework. AWAKE is a nationally accredited Children’s Advocacy Center with the charge of coordinating services for child abuse intervention and prevention in Jackson and Swain County.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Interviewer to join our team. As a forensic interviewer you will:
A. Conduct trauma-informed, child-friendly, and legally sound forensic interviews with child clients
B. Obtain nationally recognized forensic interview training and maintain continuing education requirements, set forth by the National Children’s Alliance (NCA) and Children’s Advocacy Centers of North Carolina (CACNC)
C. Documents all forensic interviews and provides a written summary of interviews to investigative agencies within 96 hours of initial interview
D. Participate in monthly forensic interview peer review meetings and seeks expert peer review
E. Coordinate regional peer review meetings
F. Coordinate and assist in facilitating Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings and trainings
G. Contact MDT agencies to get case update, and staff cases monthly with MDT members
H. Responsible for tracking cases in the CareNet/Guardify system and ensuring accuracy.
I. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information at all times
J. Follow all relevant policies, procedures, and legal requirements related to child welfare
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in social work or a related human services field
- Previous experience in child protective services, social work, or a related field is highly preferred
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to establish rapport with children and families from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent conflict management skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging situations with sensitivity
- Proficient computer skills for documentation purposes
