WCNY is seeking a talented Studio Supervisor to join their team. The Studio Supervisor in WCNY’s Television Production & Engineering Department is an experienced, energetic, and enthusiastic communicator and technician with videography and editorial expertise who helps actualize WCNY’s programming vision. The ideal candidate possesses experience within the public media sector, a passion for creating high-quality television programming, and the ability to thrive in a performance- and deadline-driven environment.
The Studio Supervisor performs a wide range of production, studio operations, equipment management, and video editing responsibilities associated with the creation of educational and broadcast media projects. This position supports both studio and field productions while ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and scheduling of production resources.
Responsibilities:
- Incorporates best practices regarding confidentiality into all job duties and communications in accordance with WCNY policies and procedures.
- Create and edit video content in accordance with departmental and organizational expectations.
- Assist with setup and operation of cameras, lighting systems, audio equipment, and accessories.
- Conduct production, setup, and post-production tasks for assigned projects.
- Oversee the setup, execution, and strike of WCNY events and special productions.
- Adhere to assigned television production schedules and work hours.
- Maintain studio and field production equipment and accessories.
- Manage inventory of studio equipment, field production equipment, and prop room assets.
- Coordinate and manage production resources and equipment schedules.
- Supervise and schedule Production Assistants and Stage Hands.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with WCNY policies and applicable regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and President
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with broadcast video technology and standards.
- DMX lighting control systems
- .Studio lighting instruments and lighting techniques.
- Studio cameras and support equipment.
- Audio technology experience; Dante audio networking preferred.
- Inventory management for studio, field equipment, and prop room assets.
- Management of studio and field production equipment.
- Comfort working in lighting grids and elevated workspaces.
- Scheduling and management of Production Assistants and Stagehands.
- Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and communication skills.
- Results-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in Electronic Media, Television Production, Radio Production, or related field.
- Literacy in Mac and Windows computer environments.
- Familiarity with professional video editing software.
- Understanding of lighting and set design principles.
- Understanding of story development and information gathering.
- Reliable transportation required.
- Preferred Aerial Lift Certification.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of standing or sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to climb ladders and work safely on lighting grids and elevated platforms. Must be capable of lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 75 pounds occasionally.
Travel Requirements: Local travel as required for field productions and events
Schedule: Regular television production hours with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and special events as needed
