Full Job Description

Position Summary

American Steel and Aluminum is seeking an organized, motivated, and people-focused Human Resources Generalist to join our Human Resources team. This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional looking to build a well-rounded career in human resources while supporting a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The HR Generalist will assist with recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, HR compliance, and employee engagement initiatives. This role will also serve as the primary site coordinator for workplace safety administration, including workers' compensation reporting, safety documentation, OSHA recordkeeping, and supporting company safety programs.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, able to manage multiple priorities, and enjoys working closely with employees and leaders throughout the organization.

Essential Responsibilities

Human Resources

Support full-cycle recruiting activities, including posting jobs, screening candidates, scheduling interviews, and onboarding new employees.
Coordinate new hire orientation and ensure completion of all required employment documentation.
Maintain accurate employee records within the HRIS system (Paycom preferred).
Assist with benefits enrollment, employee questions, and annual open enrollment activities.
Support payroll processing by reviewing timekeeping records and resolving discrepancies.
Respond to employee questions regarding company policies, procedures, and benefits.
Assist with employee relations matters while maintaining confidentiality.
Coordinate training programs and maintain employee training records.
Support performance review processes and employee development initiatives.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
Participate in employee engagement activities and company events.
Maintain HR reports, metrics, and personnel files.

Safety & Workers' Compensation

Coordinate workers' compensation claims, including injury reporting, claim submission, communication with insurance carriers, and return-to-work documentation.
Maintain OSHA 300 Logs and required safety documentation.
Assist with accident investigations and ensure timely completion of incident reports.
Coordinate required safety training and maintain training records.
Support workplace inspections and safety committee initiatives.
Track safety metrics and assist in identifying opportunities to improve workplace safety.
Partner with managers to promote a culture focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
1–3 years of Human Resources experience or relevant internships.
Manufacturing experience is a plus but not required.
Experience with HRIS systems; Paycom experience is preferred.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Eagerness to learn and grow within the Human Resources profession.

Preferred Qualifications

SHRM-CP, PHR, or willingness to obtain certification.
Experience with workers' compensation administration or workplace safety programs.
Familiarity with OSHA regulations and employment law.

Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
