Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Job Description
Position Summary
The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Developer is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving the organization’s standard operating procedures to support consistent, efficient, safe, and compliant operations. This role partners with department leaders and subject matter experts to document workflows, update protocols, train employees, and monitor adherence to established procedures.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop, write, revise, and maintain SOPs, work instructions, policies, and process documentation across departments.
· Collaborate with department managers, compliance teams, and subject matter experts to capture accurate procedures and operational requirements.
· Ensure SOPs are clear, user-friendly, standardized, and aligned with organizational goals, quality standards, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
· Establish and manage SOP review cycles, approval workflows, version control, and document retention practices.
· Train employees and managers on new and revised procedures to promote consistent implementation and understanding.
· Conduct periodic audits or process reviews to confirm adherence to SOPs and identify gaps, risks, or improvement opportunities.
· Recommend updates to procedures based on operational changes, regulatory updates, audit findings, or continuous improvement initiatives.
· Track SOP compliance, maintain records of training and approvals, and prepare reports for leadership as needed.
· Support cross-functional projects that improve efficiency, quality, safety, and regulatory readiness.
Qualifications (flexible)
· Experience developing, managing, or auditing SOPs, policies, process documentation, or compliance programs.
· Strong understanding of document control, process improvement, quality management, and regulatory compliance principles.
· Excellent writing, editing, communication, and organizational skills.
· Ability to translate complex operational processes into clear, step-by-step procedures.
· Experience working with cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document management systems; experience with quality management systems is a plus.
