Professional Rank and Salary Range: SL-3, $65,000

Duration: Calendar Year (this position works year-round); 8:30am-5pm

Brief Description of Duties:
SUNY Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center is looking for a Construction Workforce Development Coordinator who will be responsible for overseeing the Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center's (SEOC) commercial construction training programs. This position provides leadership in program development, curriculum implementation, hands-on instruction, employer engagement, and student success. The coordinator ensures training aligns with industry standards and workforce needs while preparing adult learners for careers in the construction trades.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Program Coordination

Oversee the planning, coordination, and daily operation of the commercial construction training program.
Develop and implement curriculum that reflects current construction industry standards and workforce needs.
Ensure the program provides meaningful hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for employment.
Maintain construction equipment, tools, instructional materials, and a safe training environment.

Instruction and Student Support

Deliver classroom and hands-on instruction in commercial construction topics, including construction safety, basic carpentry, framing, drywall, blueprint reading, construction mathematics, and the safe operation of hand and power tools.
Plan, demonstrate, and supervise hands-on construction projects and lab activities.
Monitor student progress, maintain attendance and grades, and provide academic support to promote student success.
Prepare students for industry-recognized credentials, including OSHA certification, as appropriate.

Employer and Community Partnerships

Develop and maintain partnerships with construction employers, contractors, unions, apprenticeship programs, and community organizations.
Coordinate employer presentations, job site visits, work-based learning opportunities, and employment connections for students.
Stay informed of industry trends and workforce demands to ensure program relevance.

Program Administration

Maintain required program documentation and grant reporting.
Support student recruitment, orientation, retention, and completion efforts.
Collaborate with faculty, student support staff, and workforce development partners to ensure coordinated student services.
Participate in departmental planning, professional development, and other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
(3) years of experience in commercial construction.
Demonstrated experience leading and supervising hands-on construction projects.
Knowledge of construction safety practices, blueprint reading, construction mathematics, and the safe operation of hand and power tools.
Experience coordinating projects, training, or supervising employees, apprentices, or students.
Ability to develop and deliver hands-on construction training for adult learners.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with basic computer applications for attendance, grading, and program documentation.
