Senior Legal Counsel (Commercial Real Estate)

Location: Syracuse, NY (On-Site)
Department: Legal

Salary Range: $140,000-$160,000 (commensurate with experience)

With a rapidly expanding portfolio and a commitment to excellence, we are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Senior Counsel to join our in-house legal team.

Position Summary
The Senior Legal Counsel will serve as a strategic legal partner across the organization, working closely with internal stakeholders, outside counsel, and government agencies. This position offers the opportunity to manage complex commercial real estate matters and contribute to the continued growth and sophistication of IronHorn’s real estate platform.

The position generally requires approximately 45–50 hours per week, providing a predictable in-house schedule and strong work-life balance compared with traditional private practice.

Key Responsibilities

Contract Review: Draft, review, and negotiate leases, purchase agreements, and other legal documents related to commercial real estate transactions.
Property Transactions: Assist in legal due diligence for acquisitions and dispositions, including reviewing title reports, surveys, zoning materials, and related documentation, and coordinating legal aspects of closings.
SNDA and Estoppel Management: Draft, review, negotiate, and coordinate Subordination, Non-Disturbance and Attornment Agreements, estoppel certificates, and related documents in connection with financing and property transactions.
Litigation and Property Management Support: Provide legal guidance regarding lease disputes, tenant defaults, evictions, and other property-related matters, coordinating with outside counsel when appropriate.
Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with IronHorn’s Acquisitions, Leasing, Finance, Property Management, Facilities, and Construction teams to provide practical legal guidance and support business objectives.
Outside Counsel Management: Coordinate with outside counsel and other third-party professionals to ensure matters are handled effectively, efficiently, and in alignment with company priorities. Monitor and help ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local real estate laws and regulations.
Litigation Support: Provide assistance with litigation matters, including lease disputes, defaults, and evictions.
Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and help ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local real estate laws and regulations.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Admission to a state bar (New York preferred) and in good standing
5-7 years of relevant legal experience (commercial real estate experience strongly preferred but not required)
Strong knowledge or interest in real estate law and transactions
Outstanding analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
High attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
