Are you an accounting leader who thrives on unyielding precision, where every decimal point matters and process excellence is non-negotiable? At I Heart EBITDA, we're not for the casual bookkeeper or the chaos-tolerant manager—we're a fortress of financial integrity, serving discerning clients with audit-ready deliverables that demand zero tolerance for errors. If you're energized by dissecting variances, enforcing rigorous workflows, and coaching remote teams with data-backed feedback in a fully distributed U.S. environment (excluding CA, HI, IL, MA, NY, OR, WA), this could be your arena. But if ambiguity, shortcuts, or inconsistent follow-through are your style, look elsewhere—we're building a team of proactive perfectionists who own outcomes and elevate standards daily.
Company Overview
I Heart EBITDA is a 100% remote, U.S.-based outsourced bookkeeping and controllership firm serving sophisticated clients nationwide. We deliver precise, audit-ready financials and strategic insights with unwavering consistency and integrity. Every process is documented, every deliverable is reviewed for accuracy, and every client receives the same high standard of excellence.
(We do not hire from CA, HI, IL, MA, NY, OR, or WA.)
Our Core Values
Accountability Consistency Integrity Above & Beyond Proactivity
The Role: Accounting Team Manager
This is a leadership role for a meticulous, systems-oriented professional who combines deep technical precision with the confidence to coach teams and influence client outcomes.
You will own the quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement of financial deliverables for a portfolio of high-value clients while leading and developing a team of 5–7 remote Lead Accountants.
What You’ll Own
- Conduct detailed reviews of financial statements, budgets, and KPIs with a Controller/CFO-level eye for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Establish, document, and enforce standardized workflows, checklists, and quality-control protocols across your team
- Monitor variances in client budgets, time tracking, and financial metrics; investigate root causes and implement corrective measures
- Provide structured, evidence-based coaching and quarterly performance reviews grounded in measurable data and observed work product
- Serve as the technical escalation point—delivering clear, diplomatic solutions to complex accounting and client issues
- Design and lead onboarding/clean-up projects using repeatable frameworks that minimize risk and ensure audit-readiness from day one
- Proactively identify process gaps or risks and drive measurable improvements that raise the bar for the entire firm
- Build trust-based relationships with team members and clients through consistent, professional communication and reliable follow-through
- Step in seamlessly to perform Lead Accountant duties when needed (AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations, etc.) to maintain uninterrupted client service
You Are
- Naturally wired for precision—you spot discrepancies others miss and feel genuine satisfaction when numbers tie perfectly
- Systems-driven: you create and refine processes, templates, and documentation that make excellence repeatable
- Analytical and diplomatic: you present findings and corrective actions clearly and confidently to both team members and clients
- Calm under pressure, with a proven ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and resolve issues methodically in a remote, multi-client environment
- A structured coach who gives direct, actionable feedback while maintaining strong professional relationships
Required Background
- 5+ years of progressively complex bookkeeping, controllership, or public accounting experience (multi-client environment required)
- Minimum 1 year successfully leading and performance-managing a remote team
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance strongly preferred; CPA track or inactive CPA a plus
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Xero, and Excel; experience with Bill.com, Gusto, Rippling, etc. highly valued
- Exceptional written and verbal communication—concise, professional, and tailored to the audience
Why This Role Fits You
- Your work directly protects and elevates the quality standard of the entire firm
- Leadership values rigor, data-driven decisions, and documented processes
- Clear expectations, established systems, and measurable goals (no chaos or constant firefighting)
- Opportunity to build and refine best-in-class workflows that will be adopted firm-wide
- Competitive compensation, fully remote, stable client base, and a respectful, professional culture
If you’re the rare accounting leader who loses sleep over an unreconciled penny, yet lights up when your process improvements or technical guidance visibly moves the needle for clients and team members, we want to talk to you.
