Full Job Description

Our practice is seeking a full-time Surgery Scheduler to coordinate gynecologic and obstetrical surgeries and procedures, ensuring patient confidentiality and customer service is at the forefront.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and schedule gynecologic and obstetrical surgeries and procedures as well as pre- and post-op appointments.
Responsible for asking necessary medical questions to patients to determine if surgical clearance is needed prior to scheduling surgery.
Responsible for following proper surgery clearance process and the completion of surgical consents.
Provide patients with appropriate preoperative information and surgery handouts.
Interact with patients, physicians, internal staff and external facilities professionally to provide accurate, timely and responsive information.
Answer surgery scheduling calls and inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
Obtain, document, scan, and index accurate information and documents into patient charts.
Coordinate need for surgical assistants for physicians, special equipment, specific surgical materials.
Coordinate surgery with providers outside of the practice if ordered by our physicians.
Complete and submit patient registrations containing demographic information, surgery or procedure information, and clinical and financial information to the proper facility.
Maintain and update providers of any schedule changes.
Responsible for meeting with patients in-office and completing charts through rotation process.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate with patients, providers, and staff of differing personalities, demonstrating comfortability with challenging schedule changes/conflicts and sensitive patient matters.
Ability to balance the best interest of the practice while offering exceptional customer service.
Ability to multi-task with strong organizational skills.
Ability to use a computer with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and EMR software.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and thorough knowledge of HIPAA policies and procedures.
Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD 10 coding and insurance practices.
Ability and willingness to adapt to changes as necessary.
Ability to maintain a positive attitude and maintain effective working relationships.
Ensures all work exhibits a high level of quality through attention to detail and monitoring of work.
May be required to lift and carry up to 20 pounds in the form of computer paper, equipment, or other materials.
Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time, paying attention to detail.
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and demonstrate manual dexterity while performing job duties.

Education and Experience

High School education or GED equivalent.
Minimum one year of medical office experience.
Preferred: minimum one year of surgery scheduling experience.
Working knowledge of general office duties.
