Summary of the main function/purpose of the position:
A counter server provides thorough counter service by greeting guests, taking orders, communicating the service process of Hawthorn, answering questions about the menu and food, taking payments, communicating about orders with the kitchen staff, taking food to the assigned table number and providing friendly customer service while up keeping a clean and organized work environment. In addition, a Shift Leader is responsible for closely assisting the Front of House Manager both while working together and when working separately.
The Shift Leader functions as a role model and authority figure to all FOH staff when the FOH Manager is absent.
Principal duties/responsibilities:
- Complete any opening, shift changing, or closing duties as assigned per shift
- Greet guests and provide thorough, and friendly counter service
- Answer phone calls, to-go, and bakery pre-orders
- Assist in the preparation of wholesale orders
- Bus and sanitize indoor and outdoor seating area
- Estimate and communicate food wait times to customers
- Maintain an accurate 86 lists and offer alternatives to guests
- Stock and serve bottled drinks
- Care and maintenance of indoor and outdoor plants
- Taking orders timely and accurately into Toast POS, process all cash and credit transactions
- Inform FOH manager of any unsatisfied guests or unresolved problems
- Sanitize table numbers and other surfaces after use
- Stock drink, expo, and to-go stations
- Stock, prepare, serve, and record expiration dates of sweet and savory case items
- Serve guests beer, wine, and bottled or canned drinks
- Update menu board with daily offerings
- Maintaining cleanliness of the lobby, indoor and outdoor dining area, expo line, drink station, bathroom, and front counter
- Run food to guests
- Clean all FOH dishes
- Stock bread on front counter and bread rack
Occasional duties or projects which may be performed at irregular intervals:
- Assist the bakery in packaging wholesale orders
- Extra cleaning projects as assigned by manager
- Perform any additional tasks as assigned by supervisor or ownership
Accountability: Areas in which the position is accountable/responsible:
Records: Responsible for keeping track of all payments and receipts, as well as entering tips into the POS system accurately. Certain shifts will require the employee to do end of night money and record tips and sales accurately.
Safety: Ensures customer payment information remains confidential. Follows food and alcohol safety rules and regulations to ensure a clean and safe dining environment.
Customer Service: Maintains excellent rapport with customers.
Physical demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands,and is required to talk and hear at full capacity. The employee is constantly required to stand and walk for up to 8 hour stretches. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms up to 72 inches. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. Front of house positions are required to be able to lift and carry 40-50lbs and back of house positions are required to be able to lift and carry 50-60lbs. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Valid Florida Driver’s License or dependable transportation when and where public transportation is not available.
All employees are required to have a valid Safe Staff Food Handler certificate.
