POSITION TITLE: Church Musician/Pianist
DEPARTMENT: Ministry Staff
1. DEPARTMENT PROFILE
To serve the church by providing music for 10:30 am worship service and music accompaniment for choir rehearsals, soloists, small groups, and selected performances.
2. PRINCIPAL FUNCTION
The Church Musician is responsible for playing the piano for the 10:30 am worship service and provide accompaniment on the keyboard for choir rehearsals during the week. Additional accompaniment would be required for select performances on Sundays at the 8:00am worship service as well.
3. POSITION RELATIONSHIP
a. Reports to the Director of Music.
4. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
a. Serve as church musician, playing preludes, postludes, special selections, and playing with the Praise Team as needed for all scheduled 10:30 am worship services on piano.
b. Accompany the congregation 50 Sundays at 10:30am service, in addition to selected services, i.e. Christmas Eve, Easter and others.
c. Accompany choir rehearsals for the Senior (Chancel) Choir. That choir will rehearse once a week from Labor Day through Memorial Day—typically on Wednesday nights from 7:00pm – 8:30pm. Additional rehearsals will be required for special music events.
d. Meet regularly with the Director of Music to review or select appropriate music worship services.
5. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
a. Essential
i. Proficient in playing piano.
ii. A good working knowledge of contemporary praise songs.
iii. Ability to accompany and collaborate with other musicians.
iv. Ability to accompany choral music
b. Desirable
i. Familiarity with Lutheran liturgical worship.
ii. Ability to accompany hymns and Chorales
iii. Ability to play piano from praise song lead sheets
6. WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL DEMANDS, AND OTHER INFORMATION
a. Must be able to play 88-key Schimmel grand piano, and Nord Stage 2 electric piano.
7. TIME COMMITMENT – approximately 8 hours/week
a. 4 hours Keyboard Musician for accompanying anthems at the 8:00am worship service and playing piano with the praise team rehearsal from 9:15am – 10:15am and during the 10:30am worship service; (3 hours playing on Sunday and 1 hour of practice throughout the week)
b. 4 hours Choir Accompanist; (2 hours of rehearsal & 2 hours practice throughout week)
8. Compensation and Benefits
a. The salary for this position is $220 a week paid bi-weekly for an annual salary of $11,440
b. Church Musician would receive 2 paid Sundays off a year. Any other Sundays off must be arranged with the Music Director and would not be paid.
c. This position does not qualify for health insurance, disability and survivor plan, or retirement plan.
This position could begin as soon as possible.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
