Job Summary
Lotus Learning is looking for a compassionate, creative, and dependable Small Group & Special Education Instructor to join our team.
This position combines instruction within our 2nd/3rd grade-level small group with individualized and special education support. We are looking for someone who understands that every student learns differently and can create a supportive, engaging environment while maintaining structure and academic expectations.
Required Availability
Applicants must be available for all of the following hours at minimum:
- Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Thursday: 12:15 PM – 2:15 PM
- Friday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Minimum: 11 hours per week
Additional hours may become available based on student enrollment, scheduling needs, and instructor availability.
About the Role
This instructor will work with students who are primarily learning at 2nd/3rd grade academic levels, as well as students with varying learning needs and exceptionalities.
Our approach is not one-size-fits-all. Instruction is skill-based and should incorporate hands-on activities, games, movement, creativity, and other developmentally appropriate strategies while still working toward each student's academic goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead engaging small-group instruction for students working primarily at 2nd/3rd grade academic levels
- Provide individualized and special education support
- Create lessons and activities using provided skill plans and student goals
- Differentiate instruction for students at varying academic levels
- Adapt activities and teaching strategies for different learning needs
- Provide appropriate accommodations and instructional supports
- Maintain a structured, positive, and encouraging learning environment
- Support students in developing confidence and independence
- Monitor student progress and communicate important updates with administration
- Collaborate with other Lotus Learning instructors and administration
- Complete necessary lesson preparation and instructional documentation
Who We're Looking For
Our ideal instructor is someone who:
- Has experience working with elementary-aged students
- Has experience with students with disabilities, exceptionalities, neurodivergence, or learning differences
- Is comfortable managing a small group with varying ability levels
- Can differentiate instruction rather than expecting every student to complete the same work in the same way
- Is patient, energetic, dependable, and flexible
- Can balance fun and creativity with structure and expectations
- Enjoys creating hands-on and engaging learning experiences
- Communicates professionally and works well as part of a team
- Is comfortable in a nontraditional educational environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in teaching, tutoring, special education, behavioral support, or a related educational setting
- Degree or coursework in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Child Development, or a related field
- Experience implementing accommodations, differentiated instruction, IEP goals, or individualized learning plans
- Experience supporting neurodivergent students
Teaching certification is welcomed but not required for the right candidate.
