Middle School Science Teacher

2026-2027 School Year

MissionTo inspire and empower students qualifying for need-based scholarships to become future community leaders through a rigorous middle school program coupled with ongoing graduate support.

The School

The Academy Prep Center of Tampa (APT) is a tuition-free private middle school that exclusively serves students in grades 5 through 8 who come from traditionally underserved communities, providing them the access and opportunity to excel in a demanding academic program, followed by eight years of intensive graduate support through high school, college, and into their careers.

Academy Prep Center of Tampa is proudly accredited by the Florida Council of Independent Schools (FCIS) and is committed to providing an exceptional educational experience grounded in academic excellence, character development, and leadership.

Like all APT faculty members, the successful candidate should be a servant leader committed to living the school's mission by inspiring students to reach their full academic and personal potential and positively contribute to the life of the school community.

The Surrounding Area

The Tampa campus is located minutes from Ybor City, Channelside, and the recently developed Water Street, vibrant neighborhoods with an active nightlife scene and diverse restaurants and shops. Close to numerous green spaces, pristine beaches, and sports/entertainment venues, Tampa has something for everyone.

Responsibilities

Teach four Science sections daily to students in Grades 5 and 6.
Prepare engaging, inquiry-based science lessons that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
Guide students in developing skills essential to effective learning, including creativity, collaboration, communication, and scientific inquiry.
Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of diverse learners.
Provide tutoring and academic support for students as needed.
Supervise a daily homeroom and implement activities that support students' executive functioning and social-emotional development.
Advise and coordinate Student Council, including student leadership activities and school-sponsored events.
Assist with supervision duties, including breakfast, lunch, dismissal, and other assigned responsibilities.
Teach during the Academy Prep Summer Program and participate in student evaluations and selection activities.
Attend weekly faculty and staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
Chaperone at least one field trip each semester, including occasional evening or weekend events such as chess tournaments and other Academy Prep activities.
Participate as a representative of Academy Prep in school fundraising events and community activities as requested.
Attend school-wide programming and special events to support students and colleagues.
Live the school's mission and core values of Loyalty, Empathy, Accountability, Diligence, Engagement, and Respect.

Experience, Skills, and Knowledge

Bachelor's degree required (Science, Education, or a related field preferred).
Teaching certification preferred.
Two or more years of middle school teaching experience preferred.
Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
Experience developing engaging, standards-based curriculum.
Strong proficiency with educational technology.
Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, faculty, staff, and administrators.
Commitment to continuous professional growth and best instructional practices.
