Full Job Description

About the Role

An established public accounting firm is seeking a Senior Auditor / Audit In-Charge with at least three years of public accounting audit experience to join its growing Assurance team. This position is well suited to an ambitious professional looking to take greater ownership of client engagements while developing leadership skills and progressing toward management.

Working alongside experienced managers and partners, you will gain exposure to a broad range of audit engagements across nonprofit organizations and privately held businesses. This role offers regular client interaction, opportunities to mentor junior team members, and involvement throughout the entire audit process—from planning to completion.

The position is based in Frederick, Maryland, with a flexible hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities

Lead assigned sections of audit and assurance engagements from planning through completion.
Prepare and review audit workpapers in accordance with GAAP and GAAS.
Develop an understanding of client operations, accounting processes, and internal control environments.
Evaluate internal controls, identify potential risks, and communicate recommendations for improvement.
Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, management letters, and other engagement deliverables.
Communicate directly with clients to coordinate audit timelines, resolve questions, and present findings to management or governing boards.
Review lower-risk audit areas and ensure engagement documentation is complete and accurate.
Monitor engagement budgets, timelines, and progress while assisting with issue resolution.
Research technical accounting and auditing matters as needed and assist with implementing practical solutions.
Maintain high-quality client service while managing multiple engagements and deadlines.

Leadership & Career Development

Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and mentorship to staff auditors.
Assist with training and onboarding new team members.
Take on increasing responsibility for supervising engagements and supporting leadership.
Participate in recruiting initiatives, networking opportunities, business development efforts, and internal firm projects.
Build and maintain strong long-term client relationships.
Stay current with professional standards through continuing education and ongoing technical development.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of recent public accounting audit experience.
Experience serving nonprofit organizations is beneficial but not required.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and GAAS.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously.
Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
Previous experience supervising or mentoring staff is preferred.
Strong analytical abilities with excellent attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
CPA license or active progress toward CPA certification is preferred.
