Full Job Description

Overview

The Assistant Food & Beverage Manager supports the Food & Beverage Manager in the overall operation of food and beverage services throughout the community’s multiple amenities and hospitality venues. This position assists with daily operations, staff supervision, service standards, event execution, inventory control, and resident and guest satisfaction.

The Assistant Food & Beverage Manager is a hands-on leader who helps ensure consistent, high-quality food and beverage service across indoor and outdoor locations, including clubhouses, cafés, pool areas, event spaces, and other community amenities. This position works closely with the Food & Beverage Manager and other departments to support efficient operations and an exceptional resident experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Assist the Food & Beverage Manager with the daily operation of food and beverage outlets, events, and amenity-based service areas.

· Supervise, train, coach, and support food and beverage staff to ensure appropriate staffing levels, service standards, and productivity.

· Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cash handling, facility preparation, cleanliness, and equipment checks.

· Provide hands-on support during periods of high activity, special events, and peak service times.

· Monitor food and beverage service to ensure quality, presentation, accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with established standards.

· Promote a high level of hospitality and respond professionally to resident and guest questions, concerns, and service needs.

· Assist with the planning and execution of community events, private functions, social activities, and other food and beverage-related programs.

· Coordinate with culinary, clubhouse, lifestyle, facilities, and other departments to ensure successful events and daily operations.

· Assist with scheduling and assigning staff based on business needs, events, and anticipated activity levels.

· Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering, receiving, storage, and proper rotation of food, beverages, supplies, and operating materials.

· Assist with maintaining appropriate food and beverage costs, minimizing waste, and following established purchasing and portion-control procedures.

· Ensure food and beverage areas, equipment, storage areas, and service spaces are clean, organized, and properly maintained.

· Help ensure compliance with applicable health, sanitation, safety, alcohol service, and company requirements.

· Monitor staff adherence to company policies, procedures, appearance standards, and service expectations.

· Assist with cash handling, point-of-sale procedures, deposits, and reconciliation as assigned.

· Conduct routine inspections of indoor and outdoor food and beverage areas to identify operational, cleanliness, safety, or maintenance concerns.

· Assist with maintaining outdoor service areas, including poolside and other amenity locations, recognizing that operations may be affected by weather and seasonal conditions.

· Address operational issues as they arise and communicate significant concerns, staffing needs, maintenance issues, or resident feedback to the Food & Beverage Manager.

· Assist with developing and implementing procedures that improve efficiency, service quality, and the overall resident experience.

· Serve as a management representative in the absence of the Food & Beverage Manager, as assigned.

· Perform other duties as assigned based on the needs of the community and management.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent required; hospitality, food service, or management education preferred.

· Minimum of 2–3 years of food and beverage, restaurant, club, hospitality, or related experience.

· Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

· Experience working in a high-volume, multi-outlet, club, resort, or hospitality environment preferred.

· Knowledge of food and beverage operations, customer service, sanitation, and basic cost-control practices.

· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and develop team members.

· Excellent customer service and communication skills.

· Ability to remain calm, professional, and solutions-oriented in a fast-paced environment.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with other departments and management.

· Proficiency with point-of-sale systems and basic computer applications preferred.

· Food safety certification and responsible alcohol service certification, as required by the position and applicable law.

· Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.

Physical Requirements

· Frequently stand and walk for extended periods and move throughout indoor and outdoor facilities.

· Regularly bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb stairs.

· Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.

· Assist with moving tables, chairs, food service equipment, supplies, and event materials.

· Work in indoor and outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions and temperatures.

· Remain physically active throughout the workday and respond quickly to operational and service needs.

· Perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment

This position operates in a large, active, resort-style community with multiple food and beverage service areas and amenities. Work may take place in clubhouses, cafés, event spaces, pool areas, outdoor gathering spaces, and other community facilities. The position routinely transitions between indoor and outdoor environments and may be exposed to varying temperatures, moderate to high noise levels, cleaning chemicals, and changing activity levels.

The Assistant Food & Beverage Manager regularly interacts with residents, guests, employees, vendors, and other community departments and must maintain a professional, service-oriented presence at all times. The position requires flexibility and the ability to respond effectively to changing priorities, weather conditions, events, and operational demands.
