About the Role
WOW! is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to help lead day-to-day store operations and ensure each assigned shift runs safely, efficiently, and to company standards.
The Assistant Store Manager reports to the Retail Operations Manager and serves as the primary leader of the WOW! retail operation during assigned shifts. This is a hands-on management role responsible for directing employees, maintaining customer service, protecting cash and inventory, keeping the store clean and stocked, and completing required opening, closing, and shift procedures.
The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, comfortable leading others, and able to make sound decisions in a fast-paced retail environment.
What We're Looking For
- Previous retail, convenience-store, grocery, restaurant, hospitality, or customer-service experience preferred.
- Previous supervisory, key-holder, shift-lead, or assistant-management experience strongly preferred.
- Comfortable directing and coaching employees.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Reliable and able to make decisions independently during assigned shifts.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage several priorities at the same time.
- Comfortable handling cash and following detailed operating procedures.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during busy periods or difficult customer situations.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Convenience-store or fuel-retail experience is a plus but not required.
Schedule & Availability
This is a full-time management position requiring flexible availability.
Assistant Store Managers may be scheduled for opening, mid, or closing shifts and must be available to work a combination of weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
Reliable attendance is essential because the Assistant Store Manager is responsible for leading the store during assigned shifts.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Shift Leadership
- Take responsibility for the WOW! retail operation during assigned shifts.
- Direct employees and assign responsibilities based on customer traffic and operating needs.
- Ensure employees remain productive and complete required shift tasks.
- Monitor the store throughout the shift and address operational issues as they arise.
- Maintain effective communication with employees and other members of management.
- Complete accurate shift handoffs and communicate unresolved issues to the next manager.
- Escalate significant staffing, customer, cash, inventory, safety, or operational concerns to the Retail Operations Manager.
Employee Supervision
- Provide employees with clear direction and expectations during each shift.
- Coach employees when performance, customer service, productivity, or store standards are not being met.
- Support the training and development of new and existing employees.
- Address routine attendance, conduct, and performance issues during the shift.
- Document significant employee concerns and communicate them to the Retail Operations Manager.
- Help create a professional, respectful, and accountable work environment.
- Lead by example in customer service, urgency, cleanliness, and teamwork.
Customer Service
- Ensure customers receive fast, friendly, accurate, and professional service.
- Monitor checkout lines and adjust employee assignments when necessary.
- Resolve routine customer questions and complaints.
- Step in when employees need management assistance with a customer situation.
- Escalate serious or sensitive customer concerns when appropriate.
- Maintain a welcoming and customer-ready store throughout the shift.
Cash Handling & Store Controls
- Follow and enforce company cash-handling procedures.
- Complete required register and safe counts.
- Prepare or verify deposits when assigned.
- Complete required lottery and other control procedures.
- Document register shortages, overages, or unusual transactions.
- Immediately report significant cash discrepancies or suspicious activity.
- Ensure employees follow applicable age-verification and transaction procedures.
Product Availability & Stocking
- Monitor shelves, coolers, beverage areas, checkout displays, and other high-volume areas throughout the shift.
- Direct employees to replenish products as needed.
- Ensure deliveries are properly received when assigned.
- Verify products are stocked, rotated, and stored correctly.
- Remove expired or damaged merchandise according to company procedures.
- Identify significant out-of-stocks or inventory concerns and communicate them to the Retail Operations Manager.
- Maintain organized storage and backroom areas during assigned shifts.
Store Cleanliness & Appearance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and customer-ready store throughout the shift.
- Assign and follow up on employee cleaning responsibilities.
- Monitor the sales floor, checkout area, beverage stations, coolers, restrooms, storage areas, and exterior areas.
- Address spills, trash, cleanliness issues, and other customer-facing concerns promptly.
- Ensure employees continuously maintain the store rather than allowing cleaning or recovery work to build up.
- Leave the store properly prepared for the next shift.
Opening & Closing Responsibilities
When assigned, the Assistant Store Manager will:
- Complete opening or closing checklists.
- Verify required register, safe, and cash procedures.
- Ensure doors, alarms, equipment, lighting, and other required systems are properly secured or prepared.
- Verify cleaning, stocking, and recovery tasks are completed.
- Ensure required paperwork and shift documentation are accurate.
- Communicate important issues to the Retail Operations Manager or incoming management team.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow and enforce company safety procedures.
- Ensure employees follow applicable tobacco, alcohol, lottery, and age-verification requirements.
- Maintain awareness of potential theft, safety hazards, and loss-prevention concerns.
- Address immediate hazards when possible and report significant issues.
- Follow company incident-reporting procedures.
- Maintain a safe environment for customers and employees.

Physical Requirements
This is an active, hands-on retail management position.
The role may require:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Regular bending, reaching, and movement throughout the store.
- Stocking and handling merchandise.
- Lifting and carrying up to [50] pounds.
- Working in refrigerated cooler areas for short periods.
- Performing routine store cleaning and operational tasks when necessary.
