Full Job Description

Position Overview:

The Educational & Cultural Programs Manager at the National Chavez Center leads and supervises on-site educational programming, oversees outreach to school districts, and ensures the successful implementation of grant requirements. The position supervises program staff, contributes to program and product development, oversees event coordination, and supports visitor and guest services, including front desk management and visitor tour support. The Educational & Cultural Programs Manager will collaborate with the National Park Service Education Team to ensure seamless joint initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Supervision

Supervise and support Educational & Cultural Programs staff, including Coordinators, providing regular guidance on daily operations and priorities.
Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members, and conduct regular performance check-ins.
Delegate responsibilities across the team to ensure programs, events, and grant deliverables are executed effectively and on schedule.

Onsite Program Management
Oversee the planning, development, and execution of on-site educational programs that align with the National Chavez Center's mission.
Ensure all programs are engaging, culturally relevant, and meet educational standards.
Manage and supervise the day-to-day operations of on-site programs, including scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation.

Outreach to School Districts

Develop relationships with school district partners to promote the National Chavez Center’s educational offerings.
Coordinate and facilitate field trips, ensuring students have a meaningful educational experience.
Work with educators to customize programs that meet the needs and interests of visiting school groups.

Program and Grant Implementation

Implement programs that meet the requirements of grant-funded initiatives, ensuring all objectives and deliverables are achieved.
Monitor and report on the progress of grant-funded programs, maintaining compliance with all grant guidelines.
Implement tools to collect data on program participation, learning outcomes, and visitor satisfaction.
Collaborate with the Director of Educational & Cultural Programs to identify new opportunities and support grant-writing efforts.

Program and Product Development

Contribute to developing new educational programs and products that enhance the National Chavez Center’s offerings.
Work closely with the curriculum development team to create resources and materials that support program goals.
Gather feedback from participants and stakeholders to continuously improve program offerings.

Event Coordination

Support the planning and execution of educational events, cultural celebrations, and conferences at the center.
Assist in coordinating logistics, managing event staff, and ensuring a high-quality experience for all attendees.
Collaborate with other departments to integrate educational components into more significant center-wide events.

Visitor and Guest Services Oversight

Oversee front desk operations, ensuring visitors receive a warm welcome and excellent customer service.
Coordinate visitor tours, working with guides to provide informative and engaging experiences.
Ensure scheduled gift shop staff are qualified to operate the cash register, process sales transactions, handle cash, and maintain accurate sales records at the gift shop at the Cesar E. Chavez National Monument.
Monitor visitor feedback and address any issues related to guest services.

Collaboration with the National Park Service

Coordinate joint programs, events, and initiatives that align with both organizations' missions.

Ensure effective communication and collaboration with National Park Service staff.

Champions of Change Grant (50%-70% of Time)

Oversee recruiting school districts and implementing the Champions of Change Grant, supervising staff and Coordinators responsible for outreach and logistics.
- Prioritize recruitment activities with school districts, including confirming on-site school visits and field trips.
- Manage on-site and field trip schedules to monitor deliverables progress, organize outreach materials, and maintain regular communication with participating school districts.
Manage all transportation reimbursements for all participating school districts.
Ensure all deliverables are submitted on time.

Gift Shop (5% of Time)

Support Gift Shop operations at the Cesar E. Chavez National Monument, ensuring adequate staff coverage once a week.
Coordinate with visitor services to ensure coverage if additional help is needed.

Events and Program Fieldtrips (10-15% of Time)

Outreach, marketing, and recruitment of school districts for specific events or program field trips.
Plan and support event logistics well in advance, working closely with assigned staff for events. (e.g. Dia de los Muertos, Chavez Day, California Resource Center, Day of Service, etc.)

NPS Support (20% of Time)

Coordinate closely with National Park Service staff to plan and support joint initiatives.
Assist with visitor tours, inquiries, and other guest-related services that enhance the visitor experience.
Work with NPS staff to set up specific events and ensure all programming components are seamlessly executed.
Contribute to and manage the planning and updating of an events calendar for NPS-related activities, balancing the needs of both organizations and ensuring successful execution.

Miscellaneous (10%)

Handling administrative or other tasks as assigned.
Flexibility to respond to unforeseen program needs.

Adapt to unforeseen challenges, such as sudden requests from school districts or program or field trip schedule changes.
Provide support to additional NCC departments in collaboration with the Cesar E. Chavez National Monument.
