Accounts Payable Specialist

Location: San Marcos, CA
Pay: $28.00–$32.00 per hour
Schedule: Full-time
Position Type: Contract-to-hire

Position Summary

A growing manufacturing company in San Marcos is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to join its accounting team. This position is responsible for processing invoices, reconciling accounts, maintaining vendor records, supporting month-end close, and ensuring payments are processed accurately and on time using JD Edwards ERP.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of Accounts Payable or accounting experience, strong knowledge of GAAP, intermediate to advanced Excel skills, and experience working in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Process two-way and three-way match invoices for inventory and expense purchases.
Review, code, and post invoices to the general ledger.
Process freight, utilities, rent, commissions, and other operating expenses.
Reconcile sales tax, freight charges, shipping expenses, and assigned general ledger accounts.
Obtain appropriate approvals for invoices without purchase orders.
Process employee expense reports and reimbursements.
Prepare monthly account reconciliations and account analyses.
Maintain accurate vendor records and set up new vendors in JD Edwards.
Process check runs, wire transfers, and manual payments.
Review vendor information and assist with annual 1099 reporting.
Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve invoice or payment discrepancies.
Support month-end close and ensure all Accounts Payable deadlines are met.
Assist with internal, external, and government audits.
Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation.
Collaborate with the Accounting team on special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of five years of Accounts Payable or accounting experience.
Hands-on experience using JD Edwards ERP.
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and account reconciliations.
Experience preparing account analyses and maintaining accurate accounting records.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to collaborate effectively as part of an accounting team.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Accounts Payable experience within a manufacturing environment.
Experience processing a high volume of invoices.

Key Requirements

Candidates must have:

At least five years of Accounts Payable or accounting experience.
JD Edwards ERP experience.
A strong understanding of GAAP.
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
Account reconciliation and account analysis experience.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
