Description

The School of International Letters & Cultures (SILC) at Arizona State University (Tempe Campus) invites applications for Faculty Associates positions to teach lower and upper division language and content courses as needed by the individual programs in synchronous and asynchronous modes, plan lessons, prepare class materials, evaluate student work, and hold office hours to assist students for the 2026–27 academic year. These positions are one semester appointments, part-time, non-benefits eligible with no tenure implications. A typical course load is one to two classes per semester. We encourage applications for the following languages and related cultures: American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Ancient Greek, Ancient Hebrew, Modern Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Anticipated start date is: Fall 2026, Spring 2027 and Summer 2027.

The School of International Letters and Cultures (SILC) is home to scholars working in twenty languages and educating its students in those languages and their accompanying literatures and cultures. With more than 1600 students enrolled in their majors and minors and more than ten thousand taking their courses in any given semester, SILC faculty bear the primary responsibility for building language proficiency and culturally nuanced critical thinking among the worldwide community of ASU graduates. Essential Functions:

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in appropriate discipline by time of appointment
Fluent in the respective language
Evidence of teaching effectiveness in related curriculum
Relevant post-secondary teaching experience

Desired Qualifications:

Terminal degree in appropriate discipline by time of appointment
Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities, and to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.

Initial review of applications will begin July 29, 2026 and continue on a weekly basis in subsequent months throughout the academic year as needed until the search is closed. Faculty Associate vacancy announcements will be posted on an annual basis. Applicants who are not hired within the current academic year are welcome to re-apply - applications do not roll forward from the previous pool recruitment. Current curriculum vitae (CV)
A summary of recent teaching evaluations or a letter written by a supervisor confirming teaching evaluations
One-page statement of teaching philosophy
Unofficial graduate transcripts
