DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB
Global Water is searching for an Accountant (Staff or Senior title, pending applicant experience) to support the accounting team with executing the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accountant is responsible for preparing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts. This person will also work closely with the Controller and CFO to support Treasury operations, including review of daily cash activity, developing 13-week cash flow forecasts, and serving as a point of contact for banking partners. The accountant will work directly with the Accounting Manager on continuous improvement initiatives as they automate and streamline processes and will make recommendations for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
· Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, as assigned
- Senior Accountants can expect to handle more complicated or significant accounting issues
- Senior Accountants will also review, approve and post items prepared by Staff
· Assist with preparation of budgets and forecasts, including 13-week cash flow forecasts
· Monitor bank exceptions and resolve discrepancies
· Manage operating cash and initiate wire and ACH payments, as needed
· Serve as the primary point of contact for banking partners, where needed
· Organize and lead continuous improvement projects, collaborating with other departments and team members
· Perform trend analyses, highlighting risks and opportunities
· Assist Regulatory department with Rate Review applications and data requests
· Prepare and review supporting schedules for the external audit team
· Perform additional duties, as assigned.
· Ability to self-review, multi-task and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines, while maintaining accurate results
· Must have a strong understanding of GAAP
· Perform all aspects of work with a high degree of accuracy, effectiveness, and efficiency
· Must have a solid ability and confidence to challenge assumptions and make suggestions to improve process and facilitate growth
· Display excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate within all levels of operations and financial management
· Ability to work independently as well as collaborate as part of a team and take on new tasks with increasing level of difficulty
· Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel (XLOOKUPS, SUMIFS, pivot tables, queries, etc.)
· Experience with Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP a plus
· Experience with regulated utility accounting, including NARUC Uniform System of Accounts, is desirable
· Technical accounting, financial reporting, or SOX experience a plus
Minimum Requirements:
Formal Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA, CMA and/or Master’s degree a plus).
Experience: 0-5 years of progressively increasing responsibility. Professional experience in accounting, financial reporting, audit and SOX controls OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Public and private company mix desired. Certified Public Accountant preferred. Experience working with finance and accounting software packages (Oracle Fusion Cloud experience a plus).
Communication: Excellent oral and written communication. Work requires the ability to write e-mails, reports, memos, and keep accurate records.
Managerial: Currently, the position has no direct reports; however, has the responsibility for directing others as it relates to all month-end close activities and may provide advice, direction, or training to an employee with less experience or skill.
Social Skills: Must act in a respectful, knowledgeable, and professional manner. Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of complex information; adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions; trying to reconcile differences; actively looking for ways to help people and the Company be successful. Will interact with employees at all levels and will represent the Company externally.
Physical Demands: Must be able to perform the following on a regular basis: Sitting for long periods of time; long periods of time with repetitive motions of hands and fingers; close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Additional: Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills. Additional experience in the corporate environment, including the preparation of financial statements, preparation of technical memos, evaluation of SOX controls, budget/forecast development and analysis, and project management, would be valuable to the role.
