Full Job Description

SureFire Systems is a total-solutions fire alarm sales, installation, design, and service company serving the Greater Phoenix, AZ metropolitan area. We work with enterprise-level end users, Electrical Contractors, and General Contractors to perform new fire alarm system installations, tenant improvements, and building fire alarm upgrades in commercial settings.

We are looking for a Lead Fire Alarm Designer / Senior Fire Alarm Designer to help manage and produce fire alarm design work from initial budgeting through permit-ready drawings, AHJ coordination, construction support, and project completion.

This position is intended for an experienced fire alarm designer who can take ownership of design work, understand applicable codes, coordinate with project teams, and help keep design backlog moving.

Standard role functions include:

Supporting estimating and sales teams with budgeting design hours during the pre-bid process.
Preparing fire alarm system drawings for permitting, construction, and project execution.
Designing commercial fire alarm systems, including device layout, circuiting, riser diagrams, sequence of operations, notes, details, and system documentation.
Preparing or coordinating voltage drop calculations, battery calculations, and other required design documentation.
Reviewing architectural, electrical, mechanical, sprinkler, and life safety drawings to properly coordinate fire alarm design.
Coordinating with Authorities Having Jurisdiction, city officials, engineers, customers, project managers, and field technicians.
Responding to AHJ comments and helping resolve design-related issues during plan review, installation, testing, and inspection.
Supporting field staff with design questions, drawing updates, as-builts, and project closeout documentation.
Managing assigned design priorities and helping maintain progress on the fire alarm design backlog.
Helping improve design standards, drawing quality, and internal design processes.

Applicants should have:

A strong work ethic and great attitude.
An eye for detail and pride in your work.
The ability to take ownership of design work while remaining flexible, collaborative, and responsive to project needs.
Extensive experience with AutoCAD as it relates to fire alarm system design.
Extensive knowledge of fire alarm code requirements, commercial fire alarm layout, and permitting requirements.
Experience preparing permit-ready fire alarm drawings and submittal packages.
Experience with fire alarm device layout, NAC/SLC circuiting, voltage drop calculations, battery calculations, riser diagrams, and sequence of operations.
The ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, mechanical, sprinkler, and life safety drawings.
The ability to communicate effectively with office staff, field technicians, customers, engineers, and AHJs.

Preferred applicants have:

NICET Level III or greater.
Experience in a lead designer, senior designer, or design manager role.
Experience designing commercial fire alarm systems for tenant improvements, ground-up construction, building upgrades, and phased occupied remodels.
Experience preparing as-builts, record drawings, closeout documents, and design revisions.
Knowledge of NFPA 72, IBC, IFC, ADA notification requirements, and local AHJ expectations.

Have a valid driver’s license and maintain reliable transportation.
Work from our office and visit project sites as needed.
