Full Job Description

The Construction Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day execution of assigned construction projects from approved project handoff through completion and closeout.

This role translates project plans, scopes, budgets, and milestones into coordinated field execution. The Construction Manager is responsible for keeping projects safe, on schedule, within approved labor and material expectations, properly documented, and moving toward successful closeout.

The Construction Manager will lead Project Engineers and assigned field leaders while coordinating closely with procurement, vendors, Finance, customers, and other internal stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is an experienced construction leader who can operate effectively in a fast-paced, geographically distributed environment and who understands that strong construction management requires both field execution and disciplined project controls.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Field Management

Lead assigned construction projects from project handoff through field execution, punch list, and closeout.
Translate project scope, plans, and milestones into short-term schedules, crew assignments, and daily execution priorities.
Develop and maintain look-ahead schedules to identify constraints and protect project commitments.
Coordinate superintendents, field leaders, Project Engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
Monitor project progress and take immediate action when work falls behind schedule or production expectations.
Ensure field teams have the information, materials, equipment, and resources required to perform their work effectively.
Resolve day-to-day field issues and escalate significant safety, quality, commercial, customer, or schedule concerns to the Director of Construction.

Team Leadership

Lead and manage Project Engineers and assigned project or field leaders.
Establish clear expectations, priorities, responsibilities, and performance standards.
Review project records and work product for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with PWS requirements.
Coach team members and address performance or accountability issues promptly.
Coordinate field teams to prevent conflicting instructions and unnecessary disruptions to project execution.

Schedule & Production Control

Monitor project schedules, milestones, production quantities, labor utilization, and material usage.
Compare actual progress against approved project plans and identify variances early.
Develop recovery plans when projects experience schedule or production delays.
Coordinate labor and equipment requirements across active projects.
Identify constraints involving materials, site conditions, staffing, procurement, customers, or other dependencies before they affect project commitments.

Cost & Resource Management

Monitor labor, material usage, purchase commitments, and production against approved project expectations.
Maintain awareness of project job costs and identify potential overruns or unfavorable trends.
Work with Procurement, Finance, and project teams to address cost and resource issues.
Ensure material and equipment requirements are identified and communicated in sufficient time to prevent project delays.
Help prevent unnecessary labor, material waste, rework, and avoidable project costs.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

Promote and enforce safe work practices across assigned projects.
Ensure required inspections, quality checkpoints, and field verification activities are completed.
Identify and immediately escalate significant safety hazards or quality concerns.
Ensure deficiencies and punch-list items are assigned, tracked, and resolved.
Maintain appropriate project evidence, including photographs, inspections, quantities, and other required documentation.
Support compliance with applicable company, customer, project, and regulatory requirements.

Documentation & Project Controls

Ensure RFIs, submittals, change requests, customer approvals, inspections, photographs, daily notes, quantities, labor, materials, and other project records are properly documented.
Maintain accurate project information in ServiceTitan and other approved PWS systems.
Ensure completed work contains the documentation required for billing and project closeout.
Review project records for accuracy and correct issues at the source.
Maintain organized project files throughout the project lifecycle.

Change & Issue Management

Identify scope changes and project issues before additional work is performed whenever reasonably possible.
Ensure material changes are properly documented, reviewed, and routed for appropriate approval.
Coordinate with customers and internal stakeholders regarding changes to scope, schedule, cost, or project requirements.
Escalate unresolved issues with supporting facts, recommended actions, owners, and deadlines.
Prevent unauthorized work and uncontrolled project changes.

Communication & Coordination

Maintain consistent communication with the Director of Construction regarding project status, risks, resource requirements, and recovery actions.
Keep Project Engineers, field teams, customers, vendors, and internal departments aligned on priorities.
Provide timely updates when commitments are at risk.
Ensure leadership is not surprised by material schedule, cost, safety, quality, or customer issues.
Participate in project and operational meetings as required.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of experience managing construction projects, field operations, infrastructure work, or a related environment.
Demonstrated experience leading Project Engineers, field leaders, superintendents, or similar construction personnel.
Strong understanding of construction scheduling, procurement, job costing, safety, quality control, and project closeout.
Ability to interpret project plans, scopes, quantities, schedules, and production information.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to identify issues early and develop practical recovery plans.
Ability and willingness to travel frequently to active project sites.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in water, plumbing, metering, utilities, or infrastructure construction.
Experience working with ServiceTitan or a comparable construction/job-management platform.
Experience with FastField or similar field documentation platforms.
Experience managing both self-performed and subcontracted work.
Experience managing geographically distributed construction teams.
Experience with project scheduling, job-cost reporting, change orders, RFIs, and closeout processes.
Experience working in a rapidly growing organization where processes and systems are continuously improving.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
