VICTIM ADVOCATE

This recruitment is open for two weeks, closing on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

Pay Grade: 112

Hourly Salary Range: $32.25 - $47.54

The successful candidate’s placement in the salary range will depend upon previous experience in a similar role.

The City of Tempe offers a comprehensive benefits package including:

DESCRIPTION / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This position provides advocacy services and community resources to victims of crime.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following

Helps ensure the victim's safety by assisting with obtaining orders of protection, coordinating relocation assistance, and applying for Address Confidentiality Program. Advocates with schools, employers, and landlords as appropriate.
Educates victims on the cycle of violence and situational awareness.
Responds to immediate crisis situations involving victims.
Assists and supports victims in navigating the criminal justice system. Educates victims on their rights.
Refers victims to various City resources and counseling.
Manages a case load, documents interactions, and assigns referrals; ensures all documentation is maintained properly and confidentially.
Conducts community outreach and engages in educational opportunities to raise awareness.
Oversees interns and volunteers.
May perform responsibilities of a similar nature and level as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

One (1) year of experience in victim advocacy, social work, or related experience.

Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in social work or related field.

Professional Licensure and/or Certifications:

Valid driver’s license

Spanish Language Fluency preferred

Additional Requirements:

Basic & Advanced Victims’ Rights, obtain within 60 days of hire
Basic Victim Advocacy Training, completed within 60 days of hire
