Job Title: Automotive Technician
Reports to: Shop Manager
Primary Purpose:
Perform daily activities of vehicle repair and maintenance operation to ensure proper performance, repair and safety of all customer vehicles.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification:
High School diploma or above
Must Possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver License
Must possess and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
Texas Vehicle Safety Inspector
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must possess and maintain the following:
Strong leadership skills and excellent work place habits
Knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance processes
Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to maintain emotional control in stressful situations
Work in concert with shop personnel
Coordinate all vehicle repairs and maintenance assigned
Technician and bay efficiency
Experience:
At least one year of experience in vehicle maintenance and repairs in an independent shop, a dealership, or a franchise automotive shop
Responsibilities and Duties: * Prioritize work orders or job duties that are assigned.
- Responsible for finding and reporting customers automobile needs directly to Shop Manager.
- Responsible for own professional appearance and behavior during working hours.
- Attend all training classes and professional development as required by the Shop Manager and/or Executive staff.
- Practice safe work habits and use personal protective equipment at ALL times.
- Submit to Drug and Alcohol Testing.
- Routinely inspect all shop equipment and work area to maintain a safe work environment for ALL employees.
- Abide by shop procedures and policies through positive example and positive attitude.
- Attend all Safety Meetings and keep Safety Meeting documents as required by the Shop Manager and/or Executive staff.
- Keep the Shop Manager abreast of vehicles’ requirements of maintenance and repair needs.
- Adhere to the shop’s purchasing guidelines, and with the approval of the Shop Manager.
- Respond to breakdowns and/or prioritize vehicles in a timely manner.
- Inspect work performed on customer owned vehicles for safety and accuracy.
- Review and approve completed work orders.
- Perform State Safety Inspections for all assigned vehicles.
- Perform vehicle preventive maintenance schedules, as required.
- Work irregular hours as needed.
- Assist in evaluation of shop employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Inventory and Equipment: * Maintain shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
- Recommend replacement of equipment, as needed.
- Conduct continuous inventory of physical count and inspection of equipment and supplies; report needs to Shop Manager or Executive staff.
- Assist in maintaining shop’s cleanliness.
- Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
Small hand tools, drills, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, torch, welder, floor jacks, air jacks, transmission jacks, bottle jacks, above ground lift equipment, vehicle diagnostic scanners, lab scopes, other misc. diagnostic equipment, repair equipment, tire changers, tire balancers, coil spring compressors, alignment machine, alignment lift, fuel/chemical transfer equipment, hvac machines, Polaris Ranger ATV, parts washer, State Inspection computer, chemical flush machines/devices, air compressors, work assigned computers, fax machines, phones, and copiers.
Physical Demands:
Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Routinely lift and carry parts and equipment 15-75 pounds. Possess manual dexterity to complete projects in an artisan fashion.
Environment:
Work around moving objects or vehicles, fumes, solvents, greases, oils, and other automotive chemicals. May work under conditions of inclement weather.

Compensation of Position:
This position will be Classified as a NON-EXEMPT EMPLOYEE. An Automotive Technician is compensated in an Hourly format. Federal Labor Laws define an Hourly Employee as a Non-Exempt employee and is not exempt from overtime, as defined in the Employee Handbook.
