Killeen Independent School District is seeking dedicated, student-centered School Counselors to support students across elementary, middle, and high school campuses throughout the district. This is a district-wide recruitment opportunity. Selected candidates will be assigned to an elementary, middle, or high school campus based on district needs, candidate qualifications, and available vacancies.
In this role, you’ll help students achieve academic success while supporting their social-emotional development, college and career readiness, and overall well-being. What You’ll Do
As a School Counselor with KISD, you will:
Student Counseling & Support
- Provide individual and group counseling to support students’ academic, social, emotional, and personal development
- Help students develop skills in decision-making, goal setting, problem solving, and self-advocacy
- Provide responsive services and intervention for students experiencing academic, behavioral, social, or emotional challenges
- Identify students who may need additional support and coordinate appropriate interventions and resources
- Support students during crisis situations and make referrals to appropriate school or community resources when needed
Academic & College/Career Readiness
- Help students understand academic requirements and develop plans for educational success
- Guide students in exploring educational, career, and postsecondary opportunities appropriate to their grade level
- Assist students with course selection, graduation planning, and college or career preparation as applicable
- Work with students, families, and staff to address barriers that may impact attendance, achievement, or successful school completion
- Use student data to identify needs and develop targeted counseling programs and interventions
Collaboration & Campus Support
- Partner with teachers, administrators, families, and other school professionals to support student success
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student needs, progress, and available resources
- Participate in campus meetings and student support initiatives
- Consult with staff regarding students’ academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs
- Connect students and families with appropriate district and community resources
Program & Compliance
- Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with district and state requirements
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records and documentation
- Follow district policies, professional standards, and applicable state and federal requirements
- Participate in professional development and district counseling initiatives
- Perform other counseling-related duties as assigned based on campus and student needs
What You Bring
Education & Credentials
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas School Counselor Certificate, or eligibility to obtain appropriate Texas certification
- Meet all certification and eligibility requirements established by the Texas Education Agency and Killeen ISD
Skills & Expertise
- Strong understanding of school counseling practices and student development
- Ability to provide effective individual and group counseling
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, teachers, administrators, and community partners
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment
- Comfortable using student information systems and other digital documentation tools
- Ability to work effectively with students from a wide range of backgrounds and educational needs
Work Environment & Expectations
- This is a full-time, on-site position requiring daily presence at your assigned Killeen ISD campus
- Positions may be available at elementary, middle, and high school campuses throughout Killeen ISD
- Campus placement will be based on district needs, qualifications, and available vacancies
- Regular interaction with students, families, faculty, and campus leadership
- Occasional evening or school-related events may be required
- Ability to respond appropriately to student needs and crisis situations
