We are seeking a highly-skilled Software Application Engineer with strong experience in Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) applications to design, implement, integrate, and support enterprise software solutions. This role will be responsible for configuring and optimizing COTS platforms, ensuring seamless integrations, and delivering scalable, reliable systems that support business operations.
The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with business awareness, ensuring that COTS solutions align with organizational goals while minimizing customization and maximizing out-of-the-box capabilities.
This role requires an active DOE Q security clearance (or equivalent DoD TS).
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluates, implements, configures, and maintains COTS applications across the enterprise;
- Collaborates with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into system configurations and integrations;
- Designs and manages integrations between COTS platforms and internal systems (APIs, middleware, ETL processes);
- Performs application upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management;
- Supports engineering software packages;
- Troubleshoots and resolves application issues, ensuring high availability and performance;
- Manages vendor relationships and coordinate support for COTS products;
- Develops and maintains technical documentation, system diagrams, and operational procedures;
- Ensures security, compliance, and data integrity across applications;
- Assists in application testing, validation, and deployment activities; and
- Provides ongoing support and enhancements for existing systems.
Basic qualifications
- Active DOE Q security clearance (or equivalent DoD TS)
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Five-plus (5+) years of experience in application engineering, systems integration, or software implementation
Preferred skills/qualifications
- Strong experience working with COTS solutions
- Experience with API integrations, web services (REST/SOAP), and middleware platforms
- Proficiency in scripting or programming, e.g., PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, or similar
- Experience with databases, e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.
- Strong understanding of system architecture, data flows, and enterprise integration patterns
- Experience managing vendors and third-party software providers
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with Azure cloud platforms and SaaS integrations
- Knowledge of identity and access management (IAM), SSO, and security frameworks
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools
- Background in infrastructure environments, e.g., virtualization, Nutanix, or hybrid cloud environments)
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to balance out-of-the-box solutions vs. customization
- Detail-oriented with a focus on system reliability and scalability
- Self-driven with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Pay range: $100,000-$140,000
