Full Job Description

The Patient Transport Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for patients traveling to and from scheduled outpatient procedures performed by the Vascular & Vein Institute of the South. Transportation services support patients receiving care at the organization’s procedural facilities, including Office-Based Laboratories (OBLs) and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs).

This position helps ensure patients have dependable transportation when sedation or other procedural requirements prevent them from driving themselves. The Patient Transport Driver is committed to delivering exceptional customer service while maintaining the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and patient confidentiality.

This position is employed by an affiliated organization that partners with the Vascular & Vein Institute of the South to provide patient transportation services. Although this opportunity may be advertised through the Vascular & Vein Institute of the South’s recruitment platforms, the selected candidate will be an employee of the affiliated organization and will be subject to its employment policies, payroll, benefits, and terms of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Safely transport patients to and from scheduled outpatient procedures performed at Vascular & Vein Institute of the South procedural facilities, including Office-Based Laboratories (OBLs) and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs).

· Arrive promptly for all scheduled patient pick-ups and drop-offs, ensuring patients arrive on time for their procedures and are safely returned home following discharge.

· Provide a safe, comfortable, and professional transportation experience for every patient.

· Assist patients with entering and exiting the vehicle, including the use of wheelchairs or other mobility aids when appropriate.

· Secure wheelchairs, mobility devices, and personal belongings in accordance with established safety procedures.

· Communicate effectively with clinical staff regarding patient transportation status, arrival times, delays, scheduling changes, or other transportation-related concerns.

· Verify patient identity and transportation destination in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.

· Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report any maintenance or safety concerns.

· Maintain the cleanliness, fuel level, and overall readiness of assigned vehicles.

· Adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic laws, safe driving practices, and organizational transportation policies.

· Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA and all patient privacy and confidentiality requirements.

· Accurately complete transportation logs, mileage records, incident reports, and other required documentation.

· Maintain professional interactions with patients, caregivers, physicians, clinical staff, and external partners at all times.

· Assist with other operational or administrative duties as assigned to support the organization’s transportation services.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

· Ability to successfully pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) review and background check.

· Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.

· Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and punctuality.

· Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with the healthcare team.

Preferred Qualifications

· Previous experience in patient transportation, medical transportation, healthcare, or customer service.

· CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification within a designated timeframe.

· Excellent customer service and patient relations skills.

· Ability to safely assist ambulatory patients and those requiring minimal mobility assistance.

· Knowledge of safe driving techniques and defensive driving practices.

· Ability to remain calm and professional in changing situations.

· Basic proficiency with mobile communication devices and navigation applications.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to safely assist patients entering and exiting vehicles.

· Ability to push and maneuver wheelchairs and other mobility devices.

· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

· Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.

· Ability to frequently enter and exit vehicles throughout the workday.

· Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Work Environment

· Frequent travel between Vascular & Vein Institute of the South procedural facilities, including Office-Based Laboratories (OBLs) and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), and patients’ residences.

· Regular interaction with patients recovering from outpatient procedures, caregivers, physicians, nurses, and administrative staff.

· Operation of company-owned vehicles in a variety of traffic and weather conditions.

· Must maintain a professional appearance and represent the affiliated organization and the Vascular & Vein Institute of the South in a positive and courteous manner at all times.
