Full Job Description

We are a primarily Hispanic-serving funeral home and crematory located on the west-side of San Antonio, Texas. We seek someone who is licensed in the state of Texas to act as funeral director. The position primarily involves making and performing funeral arrangements, occasionally supervising night-time visitations depending on shift allocation, and assisting with first calls and preparation of decedents.

The core responsibilities and duties are:

1. Regularly contract for and perform funeral arrangements in accordance with the company’s policies/procedures;

2. Accurately execute a Funeral Purchase Agreement, summarize family’s choice of goods and services, determine method of payment upon conclusion of conference, and timely present necessary documents to family for approval and signature;

3. Ensure that by the date of the decedent’s final disposition, the applicable funeral file has all applicable and required reports and necessary documents, and that all related funeral home records are updated or amended in a timely manner;

4. Until the funeral contract is performed, exercise primary responsibility over a funeral case's paperwork for which you are listed as the funeral director on the funeral purchase agreement;

5. Timely and efficiently schedule and coordinate the performance of funeral arrangements with applicable third-parties (e.g., clergy, cemeteries, other funeral homes);

6. Attend, supervise, and/or coordinate funeral visitations and funeral services. Meet family members at viewing and confirm that details and arrangements meet with family’s approval. Ensure that chapel (or other facility) is ready to receive family and visitors as scheduled, personally confirm the condition of the deceased before the visitation. Confirm/personally check all needed vehicles to ensure that they are service ready

7. Professionally take and dispatch first calls and occasionally perform removals, exercising professionalism with families, hospital staff, nursing home staff, and coroner staff.

8. Exercise careful and diligent care of the human remains in the Funeral Home's custody;

9. When on first calls and thereafter, properly complete and secure a property and clothing inventory, and timely verify the identity of the decedent, ensuring that any applicable paperwork is signed by the family at the scene of the removal.

10. Upon returning from a first call/removal, place the decedent in the designated preparation room area, ensuring that decedent is properly identified and that personal effects and/or jewelry are all accounted for and recorded;

11. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues;

12. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Moreover, noise levels are usually moderate but, at times, noise levels will be higher depending on the crowd attending a funeral service, funeral arrangement conference, or at the scene of a first call.

EDUCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

· Possess and maintain a current and valid funeral director license issued by the Texas Funeral Service Commission;

· Possess and maintain a current and valid Class C Texas Driver’s License; and

· Demonstrate fluency in word processing software
