The City of Mont Belvieu, Texas is currently accepting applications for a Firefighter in the Emergency Services Department. The City of Mont Belvieu is a growing community located on IH-10 east of Houston, Texas in Chambers County.
This position is responsible for controlling and extinguishing fires or respond to emergency situations where life, property, or the environment is at risk. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Controls and extinguishes municipal fires; protects life and property and conducts rescue efforts.

Provides fire suppression and technical rescue for citizens of Mont Belvieu and outlining areas.

Provides emergency medical treatments and coverage on medic units as needed.

Performs equipment maintenance and station duties to include cleaning and maintaining gear and ensuring all equipment is in working order.

Drives emergency vehicles to emergency and non-emergency locations.

Performs daily station assignments such as stocking medical supplies, inspecting PPE, cleaning the station, and general maintenance on departmental vehicles.

Attends training on fire department equipment and tactics.
- Participates in public outreach and education.

Performs fire code inspection or preplans as assigned.
- Searches burning buildings to locate fire victims.

Can serve within EMS Department for coverage on EMS Units

Rescues victims from burning buildings, accident sites, and water hazards.

Administers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation to injured persons.

Dresses with equipment such as fire-resistant clothing and breathing apparatus.

Assesses fires and situations and reports conditions to superiors to receive instructions, using two-way radios.

Performs related work as assigned.

Reviews policies and procedures as set by MBFD and the City of Mont Belvieu.

Maintains stock and supply for Fire and EMS related supplies.

Meets regularly with direct supervisor(s) to inform them on current developments within the department.

Participates in daily activities within assigned station, to include general facility maintenance and cleaning.

Enters reports for incidents, training, and maintenance logs.

Performs related work as assigned.

During emergency conditions, all City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may work in confined spaces and around moving mechanical parts, fumes and/or chemicals, and vibration. The employee may be exposed to work in areas where there is vehicular traffic nearby. Work environment will vary.
Perform sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations. Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of up to 50 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate maintenance equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, walking, twisting and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are inside and outside with routine repeated exposure to temperature variations, damp/wet surfaces, hazardous materials, and dirty environment.
