Job Description
We are seeking a Production Operator / Facilities Operator to support the safe and efficient operation of oil, gas, and water processing facilities and associated field equipment. This position is responsible for monitoring production systems, troubleshooting operational issues, supporting maintenance activities, and ensuring equipment operates within established operating parameters.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting oil and gas production facilities, separation equipment, and utility systems. Candidates with experience supporting facility start-ups, working independently, diagnosing alarms, and utilizing SCADA systems for monitoring and data trending are highly desirable.
This is a field-based position that requires a strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate and monitor oil, gas, and water separation facilities and associated production equipment.
- Serve as the primary operations contact for assigned facilities and production areas.
- Monitor facility performance using SCADA systems, control systems, and field instrumentation.
- Analyze operational data and trends to optimize production and identify equipment issues.
- Troubleshoot surface equipment, process upsets, alarms, and operational abnormalities.
- Diagnose and resolve equipment and process-related issues while minimizing downtime.
- Review process data, operating conditions, and facility schematics to ensure optimal performance.
- Conduct routine inspections of production equipment and facilities.
- Gauge tanks, read meters, record production data, and collect product samples.
- Monitor pressures, temperatures, flow rates, vibration levels, differential pressures, and chemical injection rates.
- Inspect equipment for leaks, freezing conditions, overheating, corrosion, and other operational concerns.
- Perform visual maintenance inspections and basic equipment maintenance activities.
- Adjust process conditions to maintain production targets and equipment performance.
- Coordinate oil sales and water hauling activities as required.
- Maintain accurate electronic and paper production records, gauge sheets, and operational logs.
- Issue Safe Work Permits and perform gas testing to support maintenance and contractor activities.
- Inspect and maintain safety equipment, including fire protection systems and emergency response equipment.
- Support facility winterization and seasonal maintenance activities.
- Participate in emergency response activities and operational incident reporting.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance personnel, and operations teams regarding facility conditions and operational changes.
- Support environmental compliance initiatives and minimize operational impacts such as spills, emissions, and product loss.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, and assigned equipment in safe working condition.
Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in oil and gas production operations, facilities operations, lease operations, or a closely related field.
- Strong knowledge of oil, gas, and water separation processes and production facility operations.
- Experience troubleshooting production equipment and surface facilities.
- Experience diagnosing alarms and responding to abnormal operating conditions.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and data trending tools.
- Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions.
- Knowledge of safe work permitting systems and gas testing procedures.
- Experience performing basic maintenance and equipment inspections.
- Understanding of environmental compliance requirements and safe operating practices.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Computer proficiency and ability to maintain electronic operational records.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and multicultural environment.
- Must be available for rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and call-outs as operational needs dictate.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with facility start-up and commissioning activities.
- Experience operating production facilities with oil, gas, and water processing equipment.
- Familiarity with compressors, separators, tanks, pumps, chemical injection systems, and utility equipment.
- Experience using handheld monitoring equipment and field instrumentation.
- Previous experience working night shifts with independent operational responsibilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry more than 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and elevated structures.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to wear and operate a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and other required safety equipment.
- Ability to safely perform field inspections and equipment monitoring activities throughout the facility.
Work Environment
- Field-based position supporting production and processing facilities.
- Rotating shift schedule with potential night shift assignments.
- On-call availability may be required.
- Independent work environment requiring strong troubleshooting and decision-making capabilities.
- Exposure to production equipment, process systems, and outdoor operating conditions.
