Full Job Description

Safer Path Family Violence Shelter seeks an experienced Finance & Administration Manager to serve as the organization's senior financial and operational leader. This position oversees budgeting, audits, grant accounting, financial reporting, HR administration, and organizational systems for a mission-driven nonprofit serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence in rural South Texas.

This position is not an entry-level accounting or bookkeeping role. Candidates should possess substantial experience managing organizational finances, audits, budgets, grants, and compliance in a nonprofit, governmental, healthcare, or similarly regulated environment. The successful candidate will bring at least five years of progressively responsible finance, accounting, or operations leadership experience, including direct responsibility for budgets, audits, financial reporting, compliance, and organizational systems

Salary: $60,000-$85,000

What You'll Do

· Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, payroll, and financial reporting.

· Coordinate annual audits and serve as liaison to auditors and the Board Finance Committee.

· Manage grants accounting, budget monitoring, and funder financial reports.

· Develop and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.

· Prepare financial reports and dashboards for leadership and the Board.

· Supervise the Administrative Assistant & Bookkeeper and the Grant Coordinator.

· Manage accounting, HR, payroll, IT, and facilities vendors.

· Oversee HR administration, benefits coordination, and personnel systems.

· Maintain operational policies, procedures, and administrative infrastructure.

· Support the Executive Director with strategic planning and organizational sustainability.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

· This role requires the ability to independently manage complex financial and administrative functions with limited oversight.

· Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

· At least five years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, operations, or nonprofit administration.

· Demonstrated experience managing organizational budgets, financial reporting, audits, internal controls, and compliance requirements.

· Experience overseeing grant budgets and preparing financial reports for funders.

· Experience supervising staff and coordinating the work of external vendors or consultants.

· Proficiency with accounting software, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

· Strong ability to analyze financial information and communicate it clearly to non-financial audiences.

· Valid Texas driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to pass required background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience in nonprofit, governmental, healthcare, or other highly regulated environments.

· Experience with fund accounting and grant-funded programs.

· CPA, MBA, or other advanced financial or management training.

· Experience overseeing human resources, benefits administration, or organizational operations.

· Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, victim services, or trauma-informed organizations.

The Reality of This Role

Safer Path is a small nonprofit organization serving a large rural region with limited resources and a strong commitment to survivor services. The Finance & Administration Manager must be comfortable balancing strategic leadership with hands-on execution. One day may involve presenting financial information to the Board or developing budgets with the Executive Director; the next may involve reviewing invoices, troubleshooting payroll issues, coordinating with grant program managers, or improving administrative processes.

This position is best suited for a highly organized, adaptable professional who enjoys building systems, solving problems, and working collaboratively in a mission-driven environment. Successful candidates understand that in a small nonprofit, no task is beneath anyone, and flexibility, initiative, and a strong sense of accountability are essential.

While finance expertise is essential, success in this role requires an appreciation for the realities of working within a domestic violence and sexual assault services organization.
