Full Job Description

Job Summary:

The Lead Medical Coordinator (LMC) will be responsible for overseeing health services as well as coordinating the provision of timely, appropriate health services for children in care.

They will be required to supervise other Medical Coordinators and provide appropriate staff training on medical, dental and public health topics relevant to pediatric, adolescent, and migrant health.

The LMC is responsible for developing and maintaining policies and procedures for confidential health record management, triage of health concerns, medical emergency response, environmental health and safety, and post-release health care planning/care coordination.

The LMC must maintain a flexible work schedule that may include working hours other than regular work schedule and evenings, weekends and holidays.

This staff will remain current with all changes and updates to policy, specifically medical procedures.

No applicant will be considered without a RN license to practice in Texas. They must also be Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).

Essential Functions:

Report to the Director of Medical Services.
Ensure that team is performing nursing duties at designated site(s) in accordance with nursing guidelines and best practices established by the Texas Board of Nursing for Registered Nurses.
Supervise all components of the Medical Department, .
Ensure that complete accurate documentation of nursing activities are performed in accordance with agency policies and procedures by his/her team and contract and regulatory requirements and standards and program timeline requirements.
Meet all pre-determined deadlines required by program and federal partners.
Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English and Spanish.
Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this position.
Attend all of the organization's required trainings.
Attend all program/department meetings to ensure that up-to-date information is received and/or information of policy changes or practice are adhered to.
Contact and collaborate with medical service providers to obtain technical assistance in the implementation of medical services.
Responsible for ensuring the team is tracking all Official System of Record data, UC medical files, ensure proper immunizations schedules are utilized in accordance with ORR, DHHS, and TVFC policies and procedures.
Ensure timely reporting by his/her team of all medical incidents (e.g., SIRs, DFPS reports).
Complete the Special Need List during Hurricane season for DHS and ORR and be a point of contact with ORR Medical Team.
Remain on-call twenty-four (24) hours/seven (7) days a week for all medical related issues/emergencies.
Conduct and schedule meetings with his/her team.
Know, understand, and apply positive behavior management techniques including verbal redirection, de-escalation, and containment.
Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
The ability to write/construct/interpret policy.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining control and professional composure at all times and making decisions based on the needs of the program and service population.
Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
Work effectively and without intensive supervision.
Exhibit the ability to maintain professional people skills, oral, written, listening, and non-verbal communication skills.
Able to react professionally and productively to change and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
Know and recognize the signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation and sexually provocative behavior and implement professional response, reporting and documenting procedures.
Show appreciation and affection toward children in a manner that is compassionate and professional, minimizing cultural misinterpretations.
Develop and maintain productive relations with federal, state and local stakeholders.
Able to handle other essential tasks as assigned and react to change productively.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
Must have his/her RN license (to practice in or that is from Texas).
At least three (3) year of nursing experience; five (5) years preferred (with some pediatric experience).
Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be eligible to drive to facilitate program services as required by contractual agreement.
Required to work a flexible schedule to facilitate program services.
Cleared Tuberculosis test results.
Cleared background check from appropriate entity.
Must be Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Cleared pre-employment and random drug test results.
Must be flexible and be willing to work irregular and long hours including evenings and weekends.
Maintain current and annual training requirements/licensure/certifications required for the position including, but not limited to:
Good standing as a Registered Nurse with the state of Texas Board of Nursing

Physical Demands:

Must be able to obtain and perform Emergency Behavior Intervention Training (EBI)/Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification and First Aid Certification (CPR). Must be able to supervise clients indoors and outdoors as necessary. Bending, stooping and lifting up to 15lbs required to complete daily tasks. Most activities include repetitive motions and can include overhead reaching.

Work Environment:

Work is at a youth care facility at which minors receive multiple services. Two shifts per twenty-four-hour period. Work shifts are subject to change. Noise levels vary from mild to moderate. Predominantly indoors, occasional outdoor monitoring or activities.
