JOB SUMMARY
This is a part time position responsible for guarding street crossings during hours when children are going to or coming from school.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Direct actions of children and traffic at street intersections to ensure safe crossing;
Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding speed restrictions, traffic control signals and report infractions to superiors;
Escort children across street;
Place caution signs and markers at designated posts before going on duty and remove signs and markers at the end of shift.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

Jobholders must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and be legally able to work in the United States.
Education and Experience
Less than high school education; or up to one (1) month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to school administrators, school children, and other employees of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s; ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration
Must participate in an annual 2-hour refresher training course in proper traffic control techniques and procedures;
Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s License.
Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, government officials, and other employees of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
