Full Job Description

Overview: We are seeking an experienced, results-driven Project Superintendent to lead our bridge and heavy highway construction projects, specializing in bridge deck, expansion joints and paving. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a proven track record in managing complex construction projects, while achieving superior bottom-line performance. Understanding that quality workmanship is an essential element in our industry, the Project Superintendent takes pride in their work, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail, and motivating those that they lead to do the same.

Responsibilities:

Plans and supervises all construction activities, equipment resources, manpower levels, and work schedules.
Develops a thorough understanding of the Contract plans and specifications. Ensuring that all materials and workmanship conform with the required provisions and specifications.
Train and develop Project Foremen.
Actively supervise and assist the Project Foreman of all assigned project sites throughout the work shift.
Assists Project Manager creating and maintaining project schedules, while monitoring critical path dates and milestones.
Provides Two-Week Look Ahead Schedules to the Project Manager, updated on a weekly basis.
Communicates site issues effectively to the Project Manager and owner.
Proactively identifies and resolves field construction problems.
Ensures open communication among subcontractors for project support.
Implements and monitors project safety protocols.
Actively evaluates safety effectiveness and implements corrective measures.
Monitors project equipment needs, utilization, and maintenance.
Ability to trouble-shoot and triage equipment issues and failures.
Coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs with the company’s mechanic.
Assists Project Manager with subcontractor disputes, quality control, and schedule coordination.
Works with Project Manager to ensure work compliance with drawings and specifications.
Supports Project Manager in negotiation of claims and changes.
Provides input to Project Manager on cost and schedule forecasts.
Assists Project Manager with monthly pay request and Change Order review.
Performs project close-out and ensures timely completion of punch lists.
Monitors staffing levels for EEO goals and mentors Project Engineers.
Actively participates in business development and estimating activities.
Performs additional assignments as directed by upper management.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Minimum 10 years' experience in Bridge or Heavy Highway construction projects. DOT experience is required.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and documents.
General Mechanical knowledge of trucks and equipment.
Effective communication skills.
Advanced knowledge of construction scheduling, cost control, and supervision of large groups.
Strong organization, multi-tasking, leadership, and decision-making ability.
Basic computer skills required.

Training, Certifications & Licenses

Osha 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification (Required)
State of CT Driver’s License (Required) (CDL Preferred)
CT Commercial Vehicle Medical Card (Required)
ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor (Preferred)

Physical Demands:

Occasional driving for up to 2-5 hours.
Work in outdoor weather conditions.
Physical exertion such as walking, lifting, standing for long periods, bending, or reaching may be required.
Physical effort and exertion, including walking and standing is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.
Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.
Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.

Pay: $105,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
