Job Description

Tailored Alloys is seeking a hands-on Additive Manufacturing Engineer (Level I or II) for a full-time, in-person position based in Augusta, Georgia, to support the development of measurement systems for metal additive manufacturing qualification. This role is well suited for an engineer with interest or experience in metrology, experimental mechanics, instrumentation, data acquisition, measurement uncertainty, and hands-on test development. The ideal candidate is someone who can support the full measurement system lifecycle, including defining what needs to be measured, selecting appropriate sensors or instruments, designing and setting up experiments, collecting and validating data, documenting the method, analyzing results, and communicating findings through technical reports.

Job Responsibilities

· Support the design, setup, implementation, and validation of measurement systems used to characterize metal additive manufacturing equipment and related subsystems.

· Initially focus on developing and evaluating measurement methods for multi-laser alignment and gas flow characterization within LPBF systems.

· Develop and execute experiments to evaluate LPBF machine behavior, including machine repeatability and process monitoring performance.

· Support selection, implementation, and evaluation of sensors and instruments for LPBF process-relevant measurements.

· Troubleshoot measurement system issues related to sensors, mechanical setup, data acquisition, signal quality, and repeatability.

· Support evaluation of measurement system performance, including repeatability, reproducibility, data quality, uncertainty considerations, and practical limitations of the measurement method.

· Organize, process, and analyze experimental data from characterization and monitoring efforts.

· Prepare internal and customer-facing documentation, including standard operating procedures, work instructions, test plans, and technical reports.

Required Qualifications

· 2-3yrs of experience (Graduate school / academic laboratory accepted)

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.

· Experience with experimental design, measurement systems, engineering testing, laboratory instrumentation, or hands-on research and development.

· Interest or experience in metrology, instrumentation, sensor-based measurement, data acquisition, or measurement system validation.

· Hands-on experience with mechanical systems, test setups, sensors, laboratory equipment, data acquisition systems, or experimental measurement methods.

· Strong technical writing skills, including experience preparing reports, procedures, test plans, summaries, or formal engineering documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with additive manufacturing, laser powder bed fusion, manufacturing qualification, or advanced manufacturing research.

· Experience with metrology, measurement uncertainty, Gage R&R, measurement system analysis, calibration, or instrument validation.

· Experience with fluid dynamics, gas flow, thermal-fluid systems, flow measurement, or flow visualization.

· Experience with data acquisition systems, signal processing, sensor calibration, experimental uncertainty, or test automation.

· Familiarity with failure mode analysis, process monitoring, quality systems, or manufacturing process control.

Pay: $92,000.00 - $103,000.00 per year
