Administrator in Training (AIT) – Skilled Nursing Facilities

Ventura County | Santa Barbara County | Santa Maria, CA
Salary: $90,000 – $110,000 Annually

Launch Your Career in Healthcare Leadership

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Administrator in Training (AIT) to join our growing skilled nursing organization serving seven facilities throughout the Central Coast, including four locations in Ventura County, two in Santa Barbara County, and one in Santa Maria. This position is designed for individuals who aspire to become licensed Skilled Nursing Facility Administrators and healthcare leaders.

The AIT will work closely with and learn from experienced Administrators across all facilities, gaining hands-on exposure to every aspect of skilled nursing operations. This unique rotational opportunity provides comprehensive leadership development, mentorship, and operational training to prepare candidates for future Administrator roles. Position Summary

The Administrator in Training (AIT) participates in a structured leadership development program designed to provide practical experience in the management and operation of skilled nursing facilities. Under the guidance of licensed Administrators and executive leadership, the AIT will gain experience in clinical operations, regulatory compliance, staffing, human resources, financial management, customer service, census development, risk management, and quality outcomes.

This position offers direct mentorship from multiple Administrators across our market, providing broad exposure to different facility environments, leadership styles, and operational challenges.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesLeadership Development

Partner with Administrators and department leaders to learn the daily operations of skilled nursing facilities.
Participate in facility leadership meetings, quality assurance programs, and strategic planning initiatives.
Observe and develop leadership skills in employee engagement, conflict resolution, and team development.
Build relationships with residents, families, physicians, employees, and community partners.

Operations Management

Learn regulatory requirements governing skilled nursing facilities.
Assist with implementation and monitoring of policies and procedures.
Participate in facility audits and compliance reviews.
Gain knowledge of census management and customer service initiatives.
Support emergency preparedness and risk management programs.

Human Resources & Workforce Development

Learn employee relations, retention strategies, and workforce management.
Participate in onboarding and orientation processes for new team members.
Gain experience with staffing models, scheduling practices, and labor management.
Observe performance management and employee development processes.
Support initiatives that promote employee engagement and a positive workplace culture.

Financial Management

Learn facility budgeting and financial reporting.
Assist in analyzing operational and staffing costs.
Review purchasing, accounts payable, and reimbursement processes.

Clinical & Quality Programs

Gain understanding of skilled nursing regulations and standards of care.
Support quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
Participate in resident care planning and interdisciplinary team meetings.
Monitor quality measures and regulatory compliance programs.

Business Development

Learn referral management and census development strategies.
Participate in community outreach and relationship-building activities.
Assist with marketing initiatives to support facility growth.

What an Administrator in Training Does in a Skilled Nursing Facility

An Administrator in Training is preparing to become a Skilled Nursing Facility Administrator by learning how to oversee all aspects of facility operations. The AIT develops expertise in:

QualificationsRequired

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Strong desire to pursue a career in Skilled Nursing Facility Administration.
Ability to travel regularly between facilities throughout Ventura County, Santa Barbara County, and Santa Maria.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred

Experience in healthcare, long-term care, skilled nursing, hospitality, business management, healthcare administration, or operations leadership.
Interest in obtaining California Nursing Home Administrator licensure.
Knowledge of healthcare regulations and customer service principles.
