Xseer Pharmaceuticals is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Laboratory Metrologist & Equipment Specialist to support laboratory instrumentation, calibration activities, facility equipment, and manufacturing operations within a cGMP pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
This position is responsible for performing and coordinating calibration and verification activities, inspecting laboratory and production equipment, troubleshooting technical issues, supporting preventive and corrective maintenance, maintaining accurate equipment records, and helping ensure instruments and systems remain safe, reliable, and suitable for their intended use.
The Laboratory Metrologist & Equipment Specialist works closely with Laboratory, Quality, Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, and external service providers to maintain measurement accuracy, equipment reliability, complete documentation, and uninterrupted support for production activities.
This position plays an important role in maintaining equipment readiness, measurement confidence, personnel safety, and compliance with company procedures, cGMP requirements, FDA expectations, and applicable safety standards.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform and coordinate calibration, verification, and routine functional checks of laboratory instruments and measurement equipment according to approved procedures and established schedules.
- Inspect assigned laboratory, facility, and manufacturing equipment to confirm proper operation and identify conditions that may affect accuracy, reliability, performance, or safety.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of calibration activities, equipment inspections, measurement results, maintenance activities, discrepancies, repairs, and follow-up actions.
- Investigate measurement discrepancies, calibration failures, unexpected results, and equipment-related technical issues and document findings according to approved procedures.
- Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of calibration, metrology, equipment-control, and measurement-quality procedures.
- Assist with qualification, implementation, and support of new laboratory instruments, measurement systems, and equipment as assigned.
- Train laboratory and operational personnel on the proper use, handling, storage, routine care, and basic troubleshooting of assigned instruments and equipment.
- Assess equipment performance under actual operating conditions and help maintain safe and reliable operation of assigned facility and manufacturing systems.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, breakdowns, mechanical issues, and technical concerns within the limits of training and authorization.
- Coordinate qualified technicians, contractors, manufacturers, calibration providers, and other external service organizations when specialized service or repair is required.
- Support preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance activities for laboratory instruments, manufacturing equipment, facility equipment, and critical production tools.
- Monitor equipment condition, downtime, service requirements, repair status, and operational risks and communicate issues to appropriate departments and management.
- Identify and support improvements related to equipment reliability, usability, utilization, operator safety, maintenance efficiency, and production support.
- Ensure equipment that is damaged, malfunctioning, out of calibration, or otherwise unsuitable for use is appropriately identified, controlled, and communicated according to company procedures.
- Support investigations, deviations, corrective and preventive actions, and other quality activities involving calibration, instrumentation, equipment performance, or measurement systems.
- Maintain calibration, maintenance, inspection, and equipment records in an accurate, organized, traceable, and inspection-ready condition.
- Support day-to-day activities within laboratory, manufacturing, and facility areas while maintaining compliance with approved procedures and cGMP expectations.
- Follow company safety procedures for the operation, handling, adjustment, maintenance, and storage of instruments, equipment, tools, and associated materials.
- Follow required PPE, gowning, cleanroom, hygiene, and facility-access requirements.
- Coordinate priorities with Laboratory, Quality, Operations, Manufacturing, and other departments to support production schedules and minimize equipment-related disruption.
- Help resolve technical issues without compromising measurement accuracy, product quality, personnel safety, regulatory compliance, or equipment integrity.
- Stay current on applicable metrology practices, calibration methods, instrumentation technologies, equipment-maintenance practices, and relevant industry standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to calibration, equipment reliability, documentation, safety, operational efficiency, and cGMP compliance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, metrology, instrumentation, electronics, mechanical technology, or another related technical field is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of relevant technical education, training, certifications, and industry experience may be considered.
- Hands-on experience in laboratory metrology, calibration, instrumentation, equipment maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, or a closely related technical function is required.
- Experience working in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, life sciences, or another regulated laboratory or manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Experience supporting laboratory instruments and manufacturing or facility equipment is strongly preferred.
- Understanding of calibration principles, measurement accuracy, verification activities, tolerances, instrument performance, and conditions that may affect measurement reliability.
- Practical mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, equipment inspections, service coordination, and equipment documentation.
- Familiarity with cGMP requirements, SOPs, controlled documentation, deviations, investigations, CAPA, change control, or equipment qualification is preferred.
- Ability to follow approved procedures, technical manuals, specifications, work instructions, and safety requirements consistently.
- Ability to investigate equipment and measurement issues systematically and document findings clearly and accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining complete, accurate, and timely records.
- Strong organization and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple calibration, maintenance, laboratory, and production-support priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and basic computer-based documentation and record-management systems.
- Ability to learn and use company systems for equipment records, calibration scheduling, maintenance activities, documentation, and communication.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to train employees on the proper use, care, and routine handling of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Ability to work effectively with Laboratory, Quality, Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, vendors, contractors, and other cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to safe work practices, cGMP expectations, equipment integrity, measurement quality, and collaborative problem solving.
- Must be able to reliably work on-site in Los Angeles, California.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Work is performed on-site in laboratory, manufacturing, facility, mechanical, and controlled production environments.
- Must comply with applicable gowning, clean-scrub, hygiene, PPE, and controlled-area requirements.
- Ability to work around operating machinery, laboratory equipment, manufacturing equipment, and areas with elevated noise levels.
- Ability to alternate among sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods during the workday.
- Ability to work on concrete floors and use stairs or ladders when required for assigned duties.
- Ability to reach, grasp, push, pull, carry, bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and position the body as necessary to inspect, adjust, troubleshoot, or support equipment.
- Ability to perform precise instrument adjustments, read equipment displays and labels, visually inspect equipment condition, and complete computer-based documentation.
- Ability to safely move instruments, equipment components, tools, and materials using approved handling techniques, team assistance, or available material-handling equipment when required.

Commute and Relocation
- Ability to commute to Los Angeles, CA 90025 is preferred.

Pay: $72,000.00 - $87,000.00 per year
