TITLE: Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA)

FLSA STATUS (Exempt/Non-exempt):

Non-exempt/Hourly

DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM:

Health Services Supervisor, Health Services Director

SUPERVISES:

N/A

POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: To administer medication to students in the residence and or school as prescribed by medical providers, in accordance with medication administration rules and regulations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Listed below are the essential functions of this position. Successful job applicants will be able to perform these essential functions with or without a requested reasonable accommodation.

Completes initial training and stays updated annually on training in medication administration.
Works under the Nurse on duty as delegated to administer medications.
Communicates any significant change of mental or physical status of student observed or reported by staff to Nurse on duty.
Documents administration/assistance on Medication Administration Record (MAR).
Responsible for documentation on PRN meds and affect per nurse, as allowed per state regulations.
Checks all medication books and ensures that meds have been given, treatments completed, and all initials are complete as state regulations permit
Able to properly and safely set up and administer/assist with medications as allowed by State Regulations.
Able to chart medications administered/ assisted and immediately report to the nurse those medications not administered for any reason.
Assist with checks on Monthly MARs.
Answers calls and attends to student’s needs and notifies nurse as appropriate
Responsible for notification to nurse of any medications that may need re-ordering.
Light clerical work
Provide privacy, emotional support and preserving student’s dignity, rights and confidentiality.
May be asked to obtain and documents age and/or condition-specific measurements accurately including vital signs, height and weight
May include some weekend coverage

· Provides exceptional customer service to students, their families and outside stakeholders.

· Is familiar with Spaulding’s Safety Program, accessible in SharePoint or by printed copy, and adheres to all provisions of the written safety plan.

· Other duties as assigned by supervisor

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· High School education preferred

· State of NH Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) license required with two years of experience. Pediatric experience helpful but not required.

· CPR certification required or ability to obtain within six months of hire

· Must complete a training course in medication administration and receive a certificate of satisfactory successful completion

· Must retain NH license as applicable by state regulation

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Must demonstrate competency in accordance with the state-approved protocol in drug administration/assistance. Leadership qualities with great communication skills, able to work in different environments and be calm and flexible. Able to work autonomously, yet be part of a larger team.

SCHEDULE: Full time, as discussed with Health Services Supervisor

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Spaulding Youth Center is open every day regardless of weather. Though the work is primarily indoors, all Health Services staff should be prepared to drive and walk in inclement weather. This job involves sitting, standing and walking throughout the day.

SPECIAL DEMANDS: Must be physically agile in order to deal with students who have the potential to be combative, agitated and volatile. Must be able to walk and travel across campus multiple times a day. Exposure to students bodily fluids (i.e., urine, saliva, feces, vomit, and blood) and cleanup of said fluids. Mandatory training in CPR. Must be able to quickly assess a crisis or escalation and be able to use an appropriate response to change the situation.
