Position Overview
Volare is seeking qualified Multi-Engine Instructors (MEIs) to provide monitoring services for our multi-engine time-building operation at KTIX.
This is primarily a monitoring position — not a position intended for the MEI to build multi-engine flight time.
Our time-building flights are conducted by certificated pilots who are building and logging multi-engine PIC time. The MEI’s role is to accompany and monitor these operations, providing an additional layer of professional and safety oversight.
MEIs should apply with the understanding that the time-building pilots, not the monitoring MEI, will be logging the majority of the flight time.
Schedule & Monitoring Slots
Our multi-engine aircraft frequently operate for 10–15 flight hours per day, with some operating days consisting of approximately 5 flight hours.
MEI monitoring opportunities will be offered in these operating blocks. Depending on the day’s schedule, an MEI may take on:
- Approximately 5-hour monitoring slots
- Approximately 10-hour monitoring slots
- Up to approximately 15-hour operating days
Availability is flexible and MEIs can take on monitoring opportunities based on the available schedule and their availability.
Because these are active flying days, applicants should be comfortable with extended periods accompanying time-building pilots and monitoring multi-engine operations.
Flight-Time Logging Opportunities
The primary purpose of this role is monitoring — not flight-time accumulation.
However, MEIs will have limited opportunities to log multi-engine time while performing monitoring duties:
- MEIs may log up to 0.2 hours per flight leg, as appropriate.
- MEIs may occasionally provide instruction during pilot currency flights.
- Currency flights are generally approximately 0.5 hours each and provide opportunities to log applicable flight and instruction-given time.
Any flight time obtained through the position should be viewed as supplementary. MEIs should not expect to log the full duration of the 5-, 10-, or 15-hour monitoring blocks.
Responsibilities
- Accompany and monitor certificated pilots conducting multi-engine time-building flights
- Maintain professional oversight of pilot performance and flight operations
- Ensure pilots follow aircraft limitations, procedures, and Volare operating expectations
- Monitor operational conditions, decision-making, and overall flight safety
- Conduct currency or proficiency flights when needed
- Provide flight instruction when specifically required
- Identify pilots requiring additional instruction or supervision
- Communicate safety, proficiency, or operational concerns to Volare
- Help maintain consistent standards throughout the multi-engine program
Qualifications
Required:
- FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate
- Current FAA Flight Instructor Certificate with Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) privileges
- FAA Medical Certificate, as applicable
- Strong understanding of multi-engine aircraft systems and operations
- Strong judgment and safety awareness
- Professional and dependable
- Comfortable monitoring other pilots without the expectation of logging the entire flight
- Ability to accommodate extended monitoring blocks when accepting those slots
Preferred:
- Piper PA-23 Apache experience
- Previous multi-engine instruction experience
- CFII
- Experience working with certificated pilots or time-building operations
- Flexible availability
About Volare’s Multi-Engine Operation
Volare operates a high-volume multi-engine time-building program from Space Coast Regional Airport (KTIX) in Titusville, Florida. Pilots generally fly in pairs while accumulating multi-engine experience, with an MEI accompanying the operation in a monitoring capacity.
This position is best suited for an MEI looking for flexible opportunities to participate in active multi-engine operations and earn compensation for monitoring, with limited opportunities to log additional multi-engine and instruction-given time.
