Contract Logistics Manager – U.S. Transportation and Import Operations
Company: Jay Logistics & Trade LLC (JLT)
Location: United States — Remote/Contract
Position Type: Independent Contractor with opportunity to transition into full-time employment
Full-Time Compensation Target: $40,000 annually following successful launch and achievement of operational and revenue milestones
Position Overview
Jay Logistics & Trade LLC is seeking an experienced Contract Logistics Manager to help establish and manage the company’s U.S. transportation operations in preparation for and following our upcoming launch.
This is initially a contract-based position focused on building the operational structure required to support customer shipments, generate transportation revenue, and prepare the department for conversion into a full-time salaried position.
The Logistics Manager will help build JLT’s domestic carrier network, coordinate imports entering the United States, recruit and manage qualified drivers and owner-operators, and assist with the development of the company’s cloud-based logistics management platform.
The selected contractor must be located in the United States and have direct experience in trucking, dispatch, carrier management, domestic freight, or import logistics.
Contract-to-Full-Time Structure
This position will begin on a contract basis during JLT’s launch and early operational period.
The contractor will be responsible for helping establish the driver, carrier, customer, and shipment volume needed to support a permanent logistics department.
The company’s goal is to transition the successful contractor into a full-time Logistics Manager position with compensation starting at $40,000 annually, paid monthly, once agreed launch, shipment-volume, and revenue milestones have been reached.
The transition will be based on factors including:
- Successful launch of JLT’s U.S. logistics operations
- Development of an active and reliable driver and carrier network
- Consistent customer shipment activity
- Revenue generated through managed logistics operations
- Ability to manage drivers, carriers, documentation, and customer communication
- Compliance with company transportation and operational standards
Any transition to full-time employment and final compensation terms will be confirmed through a separate written employment agreement.
Initial Driver and Carrier Management Target
The Logistics Manager will be expected to recruit, onboard, and actively manage a minimum of 10 qualified drivers, owner-operators, or approved carrier partners during the initial launch period.
Drivers and carriers may include:
- Owner-operators with their own truck and trailer
- Independent trucking companies
- Box-truck operators
- Hotshot drivers
- Cargo-van operators
- Flatbed and specialized-equipment carriers
- Dry-van and refrigerated carriers
- Local, regional, and over-the-road drivers
The minimum driver requirement is intended to ensure that JLT has sufficient transportation capacity to accept customer shipments, allocate loads, generate revenue, and maintain dependable service coverage.
Simply collecting driver information will not satisfy this requirement. Drivers and carriers must be properly qualified, available for load assignments, and capable of completing shipments under JLT’s operational and compliance requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
- Help build JLT’s logistics operation before and after the company launch.
- Recruit, screen, onboard, and manage qualified U.S.-based drivers and owner-operators.
- Establish relationships with American trucking companies and carrier partners.
- Maintain a minimum active network of 10 qualified drivers or carriers during the initial launch stage.
- Match available drivers and carriers with customer shipments.
- Coordinate local, regional, and nationwide transportation services.
- Manage full-truckload, less-than-truckload, expedited, hotshot, box-truck, and specialized shipments.
- Coordinate imported cargo entering the United States through ports, airports, rail terminals, warehouses, and distribution centers.
- Work with customs brokers, freight forwarders, warehouses, ports, customers, and transportation providers.
- Collect and verify carrier documentation, insurance, operating authority, equipment information, and required compliance records.
- Confirm pickup and delivery appointments.
- Track active shipments and provide customers with accurate status updates.
- Resolve delays, missed appointments, damaged freight, documentation issues, and carrier-performance concerns.
- Negotiate competitive transportation rates while protecting company margins.
- Help establish pricing, carrier-pay, dispatch, and revenue-allocation procedures.
- Maintain organized records of customers, shipments, carriers, drivers, rates, expenses, and delivery documents.
- Assist JLT’s engineering team with the development of the company’s cloud-based logistics system.
- Provide operational recommendations for driver onboarding, load assignment, tracking, documentation, and customer communication features.
- Develop standard operating procedures for dispatch, carrier management, shipment tracking, and import coordination.
- Monitor driver and carrier performance using delivery time, communication, safety, documentation, and customer-service standards.
Revenue and Operational Expectations
The purpose of this role is to build an operational logistics network that can generate sustainable transportation revenue.
The Logistics Manager will be expected to:
- Develop sufficient driver and carrier capacity to accept customer loads.
- Help identify and support revenue-producing shipping opportunities.
- Ensure loads are assigned to properly qualified transportation providers.
- Protect company margins by reviewing customer rates and carrier costs.
- Reduce unnecessary detention, layover, cancellation, and re-delivery expenses.
- Maintain accurate records for customer billing and carrier payment.
- Support repeat business through reliable shipment execution.
- Provide regular reports covering active drivers, available equipment, shipment activity, revenue, carrier costs, and operational issues.
The company will evaluate the contractor’s performance based on measurable operational results rather than recruitment numbers alone.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must currently reside in the United States.
- Must be legally authorized to work or provide contracted services in the United States.
- At least three years of experience in trucking, logistics, freight transportation, dispatch, carrier management, or supply-chain operations.

- Understanding of DOT and FMCSA transportation requirements.
- Ability to verify carrier authority, insurance, safety information, and operational documentation.
- Experience coordinating domestic freight shipments.
- Strong communication, negotiation, organization, and problem-solving skills.

- Knowledge of customs brokers, ports, container transportation, drayage, and final-mile delivery.
- Experience with freight brokerage, dispatch operations, or carrier sales.
- Experience using transportation management systems, load boards, GPS tracking tools, and customer relationship management systems.
- Experience building logistics operations or departments from the ground up.
- Familiarity with cloud-based logistics or transportation technology.
Performance Milestones
Performance may be evaluated according to the following launch-stage milestones:
- Establish the initial carrier and driver recruitment process.
- Build a database of qualified U.S. transportation providers.
- Onboard at least 10 active and qualified drivers or carrier partners.
- Confirm equipment types, operating regions, availability, insurance, and authority.
- Begin assigning qualified transportation providers to customer shipments.
- Maintain accurate shipment, cost, revenue, and carrier-performance records.
- Demonstrate the ability to support recurring, revenue-generating logistics activity.
- Assist in creating scalable processes for future logistics employees and contractors.
Compensation
Compensation during the initial launch period will be structured under an independent contractor agreement and may include a negotiated monthly contract amount, shipment-based compensation, performance incentives, or a combination of these arrangements.
The intended full-time compensation following successful launch and achievement of agreed operational and revenue milestones is $40,000 annually, paid monthly.
Additional performance-based compensation may be considered as shipment volume, department revenue, and management responsibilities increase.
Compensation terms, performance requirements, payment timing, and the conditions for transitioning into full-time employment will be documented in writing before work begins.
Important Contractor Notice
This position initially operates under an independent contractor agreement. The contractor will be responsible for managing their own schedule, work equipment, taxes, and other contractor obligations unless otherwise stated in the written agreement.
This posting does not guarantee automatic conversion to employment. A transition to full-time employment will depend on company launch progress, available revenue, operational demand, individual performance, and the successful completion of agreed milestones.
