SUMMARY: Reporting to the Division Chair for Fine Arts, the Choreographer oversees all dance instruction for the Roustabouts and any musicals. The Choreographer works closely with the Music/Theatre faculty to help create quality productions and maintain a safe and efficient learning environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include:
- Write and teach choreography for Roustabouts
- Teach courses in theatre dance
- Write and teach choreography for 2 musical theatre productions per year
- Attend tech week rehearsals and give notes to performers
- Assist in the recruitment of students to NOC and the Fine Arts program
- Collaborate with the musical theatre director on dance aspects of the musical productions
- Collaborate with the Roustabouts director on design of dance elements of the show
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills as well as expertise to accomplish the above essential duties and responsibilities are required. The Choreographer must preserve confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information; use independent judgment and initiative in the planning, organization, and performance of responsible administrative work; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Must be able to work under pressure; meet inflexible deadlines; set priorities and maintain professionalism when dealing with individuals. The Choreographer will be responsible for creating and teaching choreography to majors and non-majors who participate in the musical theatre productions, and the Roustabouts, which includes a 1 hour traveling show performed at local high schools, and 1.5 hour show in the KPAC on the Tonkawa campus. Roustabouts rehearse Tuesday through Friday, 2:30-4:30pm with 2 days per week dedicated to learning choreography. There is also the possibility of teaching courses in theatre dance (if the candidate is properly credentialed). Subject to satisfactory Fair Credit Reporting Act Disclosure which includes a criminal background check.
EDUCATION: A master’s degree is preferred, but comparable experience will be considered. The position includes choreographing the Roustabouts program, as well as one musical each semester and the possibility of teaching courses in theatre dance (if the candidate is properly credentialed). Candidates must have strong communication skills.
