Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
The Kansas Board of Regents invites applicants to fill the position of Associate Director for Human Resources and Operations. The nine-member Kansas Board of Regents is the governing board of the state’s six universities and the statewide coordinating board for the state’s 32 public higher education institutions, including six state universities, one municipal university, nineteen community colleges, and six technical colleges.
The Associate Director for Human Resources and Operations leads agency human resources, compliance, employee relations, administrative support, and internal operations. This position serves as the agency’s lead resource for HR and administrative matters; advises agency leadership through policy interpretation, guidance, and decision support; and supports consistent office operations through supervision, workflow coordination, and escalation of complex or high-risk issues to the Director for Finance and Administration.
The successful candidate will have experience supporting human resources functions, including payroll, recruitment, employee relations, personnel transactions, and related documentation. The candidate should have knowledge of employment laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, with the ability to interpret and apply guidance consistently. Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage confidential information, exercise sound judgment, and communicate effectively with staff, managers, and leadership. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in human resources, public administration, business, or a related field; experience in a public sector, governmental, or higher education environment; and familiarity with State of Kansas HR/payroll systems such as SHARP or similar platforms. Experience supporting corrective action, performance management, employee relations, staff supervision, administrative operations, or workflow improvement is also preferred.
