Full Job Description

Position Title: Education Specialist

Supervisor: Program Director

Classification: This is a 40-hour week, nine-month position (September – May)

Position Summary

This role focuses on teaching elementary school students about body safety, empowering them with knowledge about personal boundaries, recognizing unsafe situations, and knowing how to seek help. Additionally, the Education Specialist will play a vital role in educating the broader community about LifeHouse’s mission, services, resources and other training topics as identified by delivering presentations and training to various audiences.

Qualifications

Education: Preferred bachelor’s degree in education, social work, child development, or a related field.
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience working with children, preferably in a teaching, counseling, or nonprofit setting.
Experience delivering presentations or training to adult audiences is a plus.
Skills:
Strong presentation and communication skills for diverse audiences, including children and adults.
Ability to handle sensitive topics with care and professionalism.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Familiarity with trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.
Other Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for school and community visits.
Ability to pass a background check.
Such other responsibilities, duties and functions as directed by the Executive Director or Program Director.

Key Responsibilities

Body Safety Education

Curriculum Delivery: Teach body and technology safety education programs in elementary schools using evidence-based and age-appropriate curricula.
Classroom Engagement: Foster an interactive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages student participation and understanding.
Student Support: Provide a safe space for students to ask questions and discuss sensitive topics and report any concerns to the appropriate school or organizational personnel as required.

Community Education and Outreach

Community Training: Assist in delivering educational sessions about LifeHouse’s mission, services, resources and other relevant issues as identified to community groups, partner organizations, and other stakeholders.
Awareness Events: Represent LifeHouse at community events, fairs, and meetings to promote body safety education and other organizational initiatives.
Partnership Development: Collaborate with community leaders, schools, and local organizations to identify opportunities for educational outreach and training.

Program Support and Development

Preparation: Adapt and prepare educational materials, lesson plans, and activities to meet the needs of diverse audiences, including children, families, and professionals.
Data Collection and Reporting: Track attendance, collect feedback, and assist with program evaluation to measure the impact and effectiveness of educational initiatives.
Professional Development: Stay updated on best practices in child safety education, trauma-informed teaching strategies, and community engagement through ongoing training and research.

Family Advocacy-providing advocacy for children and families as needed.

· Advocate for the needs and well-being of child abuse victims and their caregivers

· Participate with team in pre-interview meeting prior to the arrival of the child and caregivers

· Provide initial on-site caregiver services to non-offending caregivers of children alleging sexual and/or physical abuse:

· Greet children and caregivers when they arrive at LifeHouse

· Provide information and education to caregivers regarding LifeHouse, child abuse, investigation process etc.

· Assess the needs of the child and caregivers in order to provide appropriate services and/or referrals

· Assist in filling out and filing Crime Victim’s Compensation Application

· Provide emotional support

· When possible, participate in post interview meeting with investigators to assist caregivers with questions or concerns they have and to act as note taker for caregivers

· Supervise and interact with child/children while caregiver meets separately with investigators

· Create case file and complete all appropriate paperwork.

· Provide follow-up contact with non-offending caregivers to provide emotional support, monitor additional needs or concerns and provide any new services and/or referrals as needed

· All follow up contact will be entered into NCA Trak

· Remain current on community resources

· Remain current on issues of child sexual abuse such as effective treatment of child abuse, changes in law and working with caregivers in crisis, by attending trainings, researching articles, etc.

· Attend MDT case review meetings when possible and/or appropriate
