The Office of the Kansas Attorney General (OAG) is accepting applications to fill an Investigator position in our Public Protection Division. This position is NOT a certified law enforcement position and conducts civil investigations only.
PRIMARY DUTIES

Review, evaluate, and investigate complaints and referrals relating to violations of the Kansas Consumer Protection Act (KCPA), the Charitable Organizations and Solicitations Act (KCOSA), and other relevant consumer protection laws.

Procure, analyze, and interpret documents, statements, records, policies, and other relevant materials in the pursuit of evidence demonstrating violations of the law.

Interview relevant parties in the pursuit of evidence demonstrating violations of the law, including consumers, suppliers, and third-parties.

Accept telephone calls, emails, and walk-in visits from consumers, law enforcement, and other third-parties, providing appropriate guidance and/or referrals as necessary.

Participate in multidisciplinary efforts and investigations with appropriate state and federal agencies.

Prepare letters, reports, correspondence, memoranda, affidavits, and other documents as needed.

Work alongside Assistant, First Assistant, and Deputy Attorneys General in developing cases for enforcement actions and/or civil trials.

Testify as an investigative witness in enforcement actions and/or civil trials.
Participate in law enforcement education and public outreach activities, such as public presentations to consumer groups, schools, business associations, and community organizations.

TRAVEL
The individual appointed to this position is expected to travel to the locations required to competently and diligently discharge the assigned duties. Occasional in-state travel is required. A valid driver’s license is required when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or related field(s). Professional or technical experience, as deemed by the Attorney General to be sufficient qualification to perform the assigned work, may be substituted for the required college study.

At least three (3) years of experience in general office, clerical and administrative work.

Strong proficiency in MS Word and Excel applications.

Ability and willingness to learn technologies, applications, fraud trends, laws, and regulations.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
-
Two years’ experience investigating (i.e., performing fact-finding analysis, investigative research, data analysis, and report writing).

Experience examining financial documents, bank records, and other transactional information; OR
-
Experience in automotive sales repairs, and/or mechanics.

In this position, you would be authorized access to private information to the extent necessary to perform the assigned duties. Employees of the OAG are required to protect against unauthorized access to such information, ensure the security and privacy of such information, and disclose any anticipated threats or hazards to such information. Employees must be cautious not to release this information to the public or other individuals, including but not limited to OAG employees who have not been authorized or who do not have a legitimate organizational, departmental, or business need to know. Any questions regarding releasing such information to another person should be directed to the employee’s supervisor.

State of Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate. A valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is a condition of employment for all employees of the Office of Kansas Attorney General. Applicants (including non-residents) who receive a formal job offer for a State job are required to obtain a valid Tax Clearance within ten (10) days of the job offer. A Tax Clearance can be obtained through the Kansas Department of Revenue, which reviews individual accounts for compliance with Kansas Tax Law.
