Alem International Management Inc. ("*Alem"*) is seeking a Systems Technology Manager to provide services to Alem in support of the Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relays. The Systems Technology Manager will oversee the implementation, integration, and ongoing performance of the Torch Relay Management System (TRMS), the integrated platform used to manage operational and guest data / communications functions supporting the Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relays.
Alem is an event management company based in Colorado, experienced in working with various Olympic Games and Torch Relays since Atlanta 1996. Alem is the production agency contracted to supply planning and operational services for the LA28 Torch Relays. The individual selected will be employed by Alem and provide services on Alem's behalf.
Position Overview
The Systems Technology Manager is responsible for the overall administration and coordination of the custom-built Torch Relay Management System. This position will support Relay functions including, but not limited to, torchbearer programs, route operations, travel operations, partner Relay services, event operations, and inventory management. The position offers the opportunity to have a direct impact on a highly visible, once-in-a-lifetime event experience.
This role will serve as the internal owner of the system - managing the relationship with the external system provider, ensuring the platform meets operational needs, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and integrating into the LA28 technology ecosystem.
The Systems Technology Manager is responsible for the execution of the Relay information system operating plans, managing the technical implementation of the torchbearer nominee program, guest (torchbearer) registration data, guest communications, route data, inventory records, and other operational information to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the TRMS.
Position Responsibilities
Platform Ownership and Strategy
- Act as the internal product and technical owner of the system, overseeing all functional areas including nomination management, guest registration, communications, route mapping, and inventory management.
- Define system requirements with users and ensure alignment with workflows.
- Drive improvement of the platform based on user feedback and event needs.
- Coordinate with LA28 Technology Applications organization to ensure integration into LA28 tech ecosystem and completion of cyber security, architecture, program management, and service delivery assurance activities.
Provider Management
- Act as the primary liaison with the external platform provider and manage deliverables, enhancements, and issue resolution under tight timelines.
- Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications for the provider.
- Escalate and resolve critical issues in real time during live Relay operations.
- Ensure the provider meets SLAs for uptime, responsiveness, and system performance.
Systems Integration
- Work with LA28 Technology Team for any integration between the provider platform and LA28 applications including SSO and LA28 ID.
- Ensure APIs and data pipelines are functioning reliably and securely.
- Coordinate data flows across mapping, GIS, and operational systems.
Mapping and Data Oversight
- Ensure accurate configuration of mapping features, including route segmentation, GPS coordinates, and participant assignments.
- Validate data integrity across systems and resolve discrepancies.
Operational Support
- Partner with operations teams to ensure the platform supports real-time event execution.
- Train operations teams on platform usage.
- Serve as first point of contact for Relay staff about the use of the platform.
- Administer the collection of all Relay partners, Games-wide sponsors and key stakeholder specific information and data import/transfer into the TRMS.
- Assist with the delivery of customized torchbearer and stakeholder communications.
- Oversee system readiness for live events across multiple cities.
- Support procurement and contracting of event technology equipment to support system operation.
Guest Communications
- Manage the technical configuration of the guest communications function within TRMS, including outbound communications to torchbearers and other participants.
- Ensure communications integrations (e.g., SendGrid or equivalent email service provider) are functioning reliably and troubleshoot delivery issues as they arise.
- Track communication delivery metrics and follow up on any failed or undelivered messages to ensure all participants receive critical information ahead of the Relay.
Reporting and Dashboards
- Ensure delivery of dashboards and reporting tools needed for planning, live operations, and manuals.
- Produce data extracts and reports from the guest database to support operational planning, logistics, and event-day execution across multiple cities.
- Work with stakeholders to define key metrics and system outputs.
Security, Compliance and Risk Management
- Manage user permissions matrix and assign user permissions as needed.
- Work with provider and LA28 Technology Team on platform data security and privacy requirements.
- Review provider practices for compliance with applicable policies.
- Manage risk related to system outages, data loss, or provider dependency.
Position Requirements
Required
- 4-6+ years of experience in technology management, systems integration, or technical product ownership.
- Experience managing third-party technology vendors or SaaS platforms.
- Strong understanding of APIs, data integration, and database concepts.
- Ability to translate operational needs into technical requirements.
- Experience working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Must have the right to work in the United States
Preferred
- Experience with mapping or GIS platforms (e.g., Mapbox, Google Maps).
- Background in event technology, logistics systems, or multi-location operations.
- Familiarity with geospatial data structures (e.g., coordinates, route segmentation).
- Experience administering guest registration or participant management systems, ideally in an events, roadshow, or sports context.
- Familiarity with bulk email or guest communications platforms (e.g., SendGrid, Mailchimp, or similar.
- Experience with inventory management within a technology platform, including tracking and reporting on physical assets such as uniforms and equipment.
- Experience with SLA management and vendor contracts.

Compensation and Additional Information
- The annual base salary range for this position is $87,000 - $103,000. Alem offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including paid time off, paid holidays, and health benefit support.
- All compensation is subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with operational business needs and applicable law. Business travel is reimbursed in accordance with company policy.
- The position is based in Los Angeles and requires a day-to-day presence in the Relay office in downtown Los Angeles.
- The position is a short-term employment contract with a defined end date in August/September 2028
