Full Job Description

The Fraud Analyst is responsible for identifying, investigating, preventing, and mitigating fraudulent activity affecting the credit union and its members. This role analyzes account activity, transactions, and fraud trends to detect suspicious behavior, conducts investigations, and supports fraud prevention initiatives. The Fraud Analyst works closely with internal departments and members to resolve fraud-related issues while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and organizational policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Monitor transactions, accounts, and member activity to identify potential fraud, identity theft, account takeover, and other suspicious activity.
Investigate fraud alerts, suspicious transactions, and member-reported fraud cases.
Review deposit account and credit card applications for indicators of fraud or identity theft.
Analyze data, trends, and patterns to detect emerging fraud risks and recommend preventative measures.
Prepare reports and maintain accurate documentation of fraud investigations and findings.
Conduct inbound and outbound member communication related to fraud investigations and account security.
Handle complex or escalated member fraud concerns and ensure timely resolution.
Collaborate with Compliance, Risk Management, Retail Operations, Back Office, Internal Audit, and Member Engagement teams to support fraud prevention efforts.
Assist in the development and implementation of fraud prevention policies, procedures, and controls.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, card network rules, and internal policies.
Maintain current knowledge of fraud trends, detection technologies, and industry best practices.
Keep management informed of fraud trends, significant cases, and emerging risks.
Attend department meetings and training sessions.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Criminal Justice, Risk Management, or a related field preferred.
One to two years of experience in fraud prevention, investigations, financial services, risk management, or a related field preferred.
Fraud-related certification (CFE or equivalent) preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of fraud detection, investigation techniques, and fraud prevention practices.
Understanding of applicable regulations and industry standards, including BSA, Regulation E, UCC, and Visa rules preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong member service and interpersonal skills.
